Nationals vs. Giants 7/3/15

The Nationals lost to the Braves last night when Cameron Maybin hit a walk off single against Max Scherzer who picked up the complete game loss.

Max Scherzer has been awesome and he was still very good yesterday. He pitched a gem, but picked up the loss in a complete game effort. Though he and the Nationals lost yesterday, it is always good to see Scherzer doing so well. The Nationals dropped the series, but they will head back to Nationals park today as the Giants cross the country to play at our nations capital. Jake Peavy will take the hill for the Giants and Gio Gonzalez will take the hill for the home team.

Jake Peavy hasn't pitched much this season as issues with his back have kept him from starting games. The last time he pitched in a big league game it was April 17th. He got a rough start to his season after 2 starts this season left him with a 9.39 ERA after only 7.2 innings of work. His numbers can easily come back into line considering he's had such a small sample of work and he will no doubt be ready when he takes the hill against the Nationals tonight. The Nationals lineup has had some experience with Peavy, and the results have been favorable. Denard Span will no doubt be happy to see Peavy as well.

Gio Gonzalez had a great game when he faced Pittsburgh back on June 21st and then he got washed out against the Phillies. Gio should be well rested and hopefully he'll be firing on all cylinders like he was against the Pirates. He's definitely had an up and down season, but he seems to have had more good games than he has had bad ones. All the Nationals need from him is a chance to win and hopefully he can deliver that tonight. Gio's time against the current players on the Giants is less than desirable, but there is a reason they play the games.
