Nationals vs Reds 7/7/15

The Nationals lost to the Reds 3-2 on Monday night even though Doug Fister went 6 good innings.

The Nationals sent Doug Fister to the hill yesterday and even though he went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs, 1 of which were earned, the Nationals dropped the game 3-2. Tonight the Nationals will send ace Max Scherzer to the hill and the Reds will send Johnny Cueto against him. It should be a strong showing from the two pitchers tonight since both are some of the best in the league. If the Nationals lose tonight, they'll be looking for a salvage job on Wednesday.

Not surprisingly, Johnny Cueto has been very good this year. In his last start, he went 8 innings, allowed only 1 run, and struck out 8. It was one of his many good starts this year and his 2.84 ERA says a lot about Cueto as a pitcher. He will definitely be a tall task for the Nationals to overcome today, but it should be a good game considering the Nationals are sending Scherzer to the hill. Surprisingly, the Nationals haven't done too bad against Cueto in 91 PAs, so it will be an interesting game tonight.

Max Scherzer has been so much fun to watch, especially lately. He's gone at least 8 innings in his last 4 starts and allowed only 4 runs in that time. He's just been a steady force in the Nationals rotation and leads by example at the same time, most notably with his 3 complete games this season. the Nationals may have to deal with Cueto, but the Reds have to deal with Scherzer, and that almost seem unfair. The Reds haven't seen a whole lot of Scherzer, but the numbers seem strange. Take it with a grain of salt since it is such a small sample size.
