With the callups of Ryan Zimmerman and Bill Bray and the activation of Josh Karp from the disabled list, the Senators' roster now has three of the team's past five first-round draft selections. Zimmerman was the Nats' top pick earlier this month, Bray was the Expos' top selection last year and Karp was the organization's first pick in 2001.
All three contributed to the Senators' 2-1 win over Akron on Sunday. Karp started and pitched three shutout innings before hitting his planned pitch count and yielding to eventual winner Kip Bouknight. Zimmerman scored what turned out to be the winning run in the sixth inning and Bray picked up the save despite allowing a run that added some drama to the end of the game.
Darrell Rasner, one of the two Senators who is on the Nationals' 40-man roster, was forced to leave his start against Erie on Monday night after two-thirds of an inning after he took a line drive off of his pitching arm. His condition is not known as of now. Although Jason Norderum pitched well the emergency long-relief role, Harrisburg lost to Erie 5-2.
Mike Hinckley allowed Frederick just two runs over eight innings on Monday as A Potomac pounded the Keys 8-0. The offensive production was spread equally through the lineup with seven of the eight starters getting at least one hit and five different players scoring runs.
Brandon Watson continued his torrid hitting for AAA New Orleans. In the Zephyrs' 7-5 loss to Memphis, Watson went 2-4 to raise his average to .369. J. J. Davis hit a home run and scored twice, but it wasn't enough as the newly-acquired Stephen Randolph allowed four runs in two innings of relief work.
