Yep--on paper and on the field are two different things. Sometimes a team filled with all-stars at every position doesn't jell. Couple years ago when the Phillies had those 4 aces in their rotation, we all conceded the WS to them in April....and it didn't work out that way at all. Stuff happens.
Not knocking what the Jays (and the Angels) have done...I still hope the O's realize they have some holes to fill (and that they don't pin too much hope on two players coming back from major injuries). Would like to think last year wasn't just a one year abberation.
knucklers have demonstrated over the years that they can pitch into their 40's fairly effectively..Charlie Hough, Hoyt Wilhelm, the Niekro's, Wilbur Wood, Tim Wakefield....so perhaps Dickey is just now coming into his own and might have 2 or 3 decent years ahead of him...so he's a decent risk for a short contract IMO.
Or he could just flame out completely and be a 'one-hit wonder'.
