Orioles Make Four Moves

The Orioles announced four roster moves on Tuesday including putting Duchscherer on the DL.

Optioned to Triple-A Norfolk: LHP Zach Britton and C Craig Tatum

Assigned: INF Brendan Harris to minor league camp

DL: Placed Justin Duchscherer on the 15-day DL with a strained left hip

Analysis: None of these moves comes as much of a surprise. Unfortunately for Oriole fans, our fear about Duchscherer being injury prone is proving to be correct, at least for the start of the season. Hopefully this is something that can heal up quick

Optioned to Triple-A Norfolk: OF Nolan Reimold

Released: OF Randy Winn

Assigned to minor league camp: LHP Clay Rapada, LHP Mark Hendrickson, RHP David Riske, RHP Ryen Drese, RHP Pat Egan, and INF Nick Green.

Analysis: The Orioles now have 30 players in camp including 15 pitchers, five outfielders, seven infielders and three catchers. No real surprises on the roster moves today.

Optioned to Triple-A Norfolk: 3B Josh Bell

Released: P Adrian Rosario

Re-acquired: RHP Pat Egan

Analysis: Bell had an opportunity this spring to showcase his talents but instead it was Jake Fox who did the head turning. It appears Fox will be Mark Reynolds backup and Bell will get everday playing time in Norfolk. Rosario was a Rule-5 draft pick. This spring he was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA. He only pitched in two games this spring. The acquisition of Rosario turned some heads in the first place. He spent last season between rookie-level and Class A Wisconsin. In Class A Wisconsin, Rosario went 4-0 with a 4.50 ERA. The Orioles were not going to keep him on their active Major League roster so they let him go, he cleared waivers and will now be sent back to the Brewers. The Brewers selected Egan as a Rule 5 draft pick. This spring Egan appeared in six games and tossed 6.1 scoreless innings and recorded two saves. He was assigned to Norfolk.

Optioned to Triple-A Norfolk: OF Matt Angle and 1B Brandon Snyder

Analysis: Nothing too surprising here. Despite a strong spring by Angle in which he hit .320 but only had one extra-base hit, Angle is stuck in a tough spot in an already crowded outfield. Last year for Norfolk, Angle hit .260 with one homerun and 24 RBI’s in 87 games. Snyder also was just odd man out behind Lee, Scott, Reynolds and Fox. Last year in 96 games at Norfolk Snyder hit .257 with nine homers and 43 RBI’s.

Assigned to Triple-A Norfolk: RHP Brandon Erbe, RHP Chorye Spoone, LHP Troy Patton and LHP Pedro Viola.

Assigned to Double-A Bowie: RHP Luis Lebron and INF Pedro Florimon

Reassigned to minor league camp: RHP Mitch Atkins, RHP Raul Rivero, OF Tyler Henson, C Adam Donachie and C Caleb Joseph.

There are 45 players remaining in major league camp, including the following non-roster invitees. RHP Ryan Drese, RHP Armando Gabino, LHP Mark Hendrickson, RHP Wynn Pelzer, LHP Clay Rapada, RHP David Riske, RHP Josh Rupe, C Michael Hernandez, INF Ryan Adams, INF Nick Green, INF Brendan Harris, and OF Randy Winn
