Bascom and Townsend Carry Keys to 5-2 Win

Great pitching by Bascom and a Townsend home run help Keys narrow the gap in the division.

Orlando Gomez

"We got some good pitching and clutch hitting. The funny thing was all the RBI tonight were by left-handers and it was great to win the first game."

On Bascom

"He threw the ball very well, located fast ball, changeup saw curve ball was good. The only thing I saw was when he gave up most of the hits it was with his cutters he was riding kind of high there but outside of that he pitched very well. He was aggressive, attacked the hitters and when you locate the way we are going to win anyways."

On Townsend

Yesterday we gave him the night off because his wrist was bothering him a little bit. I know if I were to put him in the lineup yesterday that he would have played. I preferred to give him the day off and have him prepared for this series. He is swinging the bat very well."

On reaching the .500 mark (13-13)

"We need to keep winning games and finish this series here at home and go on the road trip and play good ball. If we get good pitching I think we are in good shape defensively we are making good plays and offensively we are scoring some runs."

Tyler Townsend

On the team win tonight

"It is a good win and going into tonight we were four games down and we have four with them. We just went out andbattled really wwell and it feels good to get the win."

On the wrist discomfort and him wearing a wrap in the locker room after the game

"No its just sort of precautionary. I have had my fair share of injuries and I plan on not having them this year. It was nice to take a break and just come back tonight and just get back on a roll."

On his home run ball to center in the fifth inning

"I knew the guy he threw me offspeed and I was up there looking for one and he just left one hanging and I hit it. I hit it good thought it had a chance sort of watching it wasn't sure anymore so I started running but fortunately it did."

On Bascom

"He threw the ball really well, lit up the strike zone and got timely ground balls we were able to execute the plays and overall we have been playing great the last couple weeks."

Tim Bascom

On his performance

"Double play ball makes for an easy inning get a guy on and get a ground ball and it keeps you deep in ball games."

On a possible pitch count

"I didn't really know what my pitch count was just trying to give my team the best shot to win and go as far as possible."
