Mike Wright: I didn't really expected to be drafted by the Orioles but they're my new favorite team and it's close to home. I'm just excited. It's awesome to be drafted.
ITO: Were you surprised it was the Orioles that selected you? Had you and the Orioles talked much before the draft?
Wright: I've talked to them but from what I understood a lot of other teams ahead liked me. I knew the Orioles liked me though.
ITO: Do you have any idea what the Orioles organization or farm system is like?
Wright: Not really. I looked it up briefly and noticed there were teams close to home.
ITO: What type of pitches do you throw and at what speeds? What are your strengths and what do you need to work on the most?
Wright: I throw mostly fastball, change up and slider. I got my fastball up to 96 this year but most hit 91-94. I plan on working on being more consistent and being the best I can be and work my way to the top. I don't want to be in minors forever. I want to help the big team win because that's what it's about.
ITO: Did you have a favorite player growing up or a favorite team?
Wright: My favorite was the Braves because I got to watch them a lot on television. I knew the Braves didn't have me high on their list and I'm taking pride on the team that picked me up.
ITO: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?
Wright: My freshman year, the only win I had as a freshman was the win against South Carolina in the championship and my fastball hit 94. I came in with bases loaded and one out. I got big strike out and a big grounder. We came back to tie up and won the game.
ITO: Are you looking to sign quickly and get your professional career started right away?
Wright: Yes. Absolutely.
ITO: What do you think you will bring to the Orioles organization?
Wright: I bring a competitive nature. I have lots of pride and right now the Orioles are what I'm focused on and helping them win.
