InsidetheOs: Tell us what is going through your mind after being selected by the Orioles

Matthew Taylor: It is absolutely incredible! It has been a long time dream of mine to get drafted. This is a stepping stone along the way to achieving my goal as a Major Leaguer.

ITO: Were you surprised it was the Orioles that selected you? Had you and the Orioles talked much before the draft?

Taylor: A little surprised. I thought that the end of the second going into the third round but it fell differently. Baltimore is one of the organizations that I wanted to play for and I am very grateful to them for drafting me.

ITO: Do you have any idea what the Orioles organization or farm system is like?

Taylor: I actually do, Nick Markakis is my favorite player he played in the same junior college conference as me. I Was an outfielder and pitcher.

ITO: What type of pitches do you throw and at what speeds? Give us a scouting report please- what are your strengths and what do you need to work on the most?

Taylor: I throw a 2-seam fastball in the range of 90-94 MPH, a really hard slider, curveball, and changeup. I definitely consider my slider my out pitch.

ITO: Did you have a favorite team growing up?

Taylor: My favorite team growing up was no doubt the Braves. I grew up tom Glavine, John Smoltz to watch.

ITO: Who would you compare your stuff to at the Major League level so Orioles' fans can get an idea of what you're like on the mound? and why?

Taylor: I would say C.J. Wilson of the Texas Rangers. He was a junior college outfielder and pitcher and we have similar stuff and he came up as a reliever. We have a lot of similarities

ITO: Would you rather be a starter or reliever?

Taylor: I don't have a preference I like being a reliever because you can throw almost every game but as a starter you can start your own game.

ITO: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Taylor: Senior year of H.S and we lost but just memories and journey. We were leading going into the sixth and they beat us.

ITO: What was your favorite college moment?

Taylor: We were in the conference semis and we played and won a 12 inning game. There was a guy on second and they intentionally walked me to force a double play and we ended up getting a walk off single.

ITO: Are you looking to sign quickly and get your professional career started right away?

Taylor: As of right now everything looks like we will sign as soon as possible and I hope to be in Aberdeen as soon as possible.

ITO: What do you think you will bring to the Orioles organization?

Taylor: The number one thing I will bring is competitiveness. Winning is the most important thing to me.
