Q&A 11th Round Pick, Adam Davis

ITO interviews the Orioles 11th round pick, catcher Adam Davis from Illinois. Davis, a junior, hit .290 with five homers, and 33 RBIs. Davis had 15 stolen bases in 19 attempts.

InsidetheOs: Tell us what it feels like to be selected by the Orioles?

Adam Davis: I feel relieved that it happened. I knew I could do it but all the weight of the draft is off my shoulders and I can start pro baseball.

ITO: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Orioles?

Davis: I swing the bat pretty well although I am more of a doubles guy. Defensively I have a strong arm I like to block balls. I am Not afraid to get hit or get ran over. Pretty aggressive call own game.

ITO: What are your strengths and your weaknesses?

Davis: My strength is that I am athletic for a catcher. I stole 15-20 bases. I wouldn't say it is a weakness but just understanding the catcher position at the pro level.

ITO: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Orioles' fans have an idea of what your game is like?

Davis: I love the way Buster Posey played last year. He is aggressive, hits well and has a good arm. A catcher has to be a leader on and off the field.

ITO: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Orioles or were you surprised they selected you?

Davis: The Orioles were one of my top five teams; had a couple meetings with them. I Thought it was going to be anywhere in the fourth through seventh round. I got a call from the O's guy and he told me they were going to draft me. It is an amazing feeling and I cant wait to get started.

ITO: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Davis: This past week in big ten tournament and we won the tourney. I got MVP of the tournament and I am proud of that because we have great players on this team and conference. We knocked out Cal-State Fullerton and we lost to Stanford.

ITO: Who was your favorite team and player growing up?

Davis: White Sox because I am from Chicago and wanted to go different because most everybody I was around were Cubs fans.

ITO: Are you planning on signing right away or will this be a process?

Davis: I am not going to wait the whole summer. I plan to sign right away just need some time to rest. Not really about money I just want to play.
