Scouting Report

As far as young pitchers go, Johnson is pretty polished and has had AFL success because of it. His stuff is somewhat limited but he locates well enough to get hitters out consistently. He works from a simple, easily repeatable delivery and he spots his fastball well at 87-90 mph. He is easy to pick up, however, so he needs to be extra careful with where he puts his fastball.

Johnson also mixes in a slider and changeup, but mostly works off the fastball. He doesn't appear too comfortable with his 78-80 mph changeup yet but his arm speed is there and it shows good fading action. He shows a little more conviction with his slider at 79-82 mph. It's a fringe offering with short action but he spots it well.
