Orioles Cut Eight Players from Spring Roster

The Orioles announced on Sunday that stye trimmed their spring roster by eight.

They optioned INFs Josh Bell and Ryan Adams to Triple-A Norfolk.

Adams saw six games with the Orioles last season but spend the majority of the season with Norfolk where he hit .284.

Bell saw five games with the Orioles where he only hit .182. He spend most of 2011 with Norfolk where he hit .253 and homered 19 times.

They sent L.J. Hoes and Xavier Avery, catchers Michael Ohlman and Brian Ward, and RHP Steve Johnson have been reassigned to minor league camp.

Hoes spent the first part of 2011 in Frederick where he hit .241 before being called up to Double-AA Bowie and hit .305 with 6 homers and 54 RBIs.

Avery spent all of 2011 with Bowie where he hit .259. He is most known for his base stealing ability. Last season he was 36-50 on the base paths.

Ohlman spent all of 2011 with Delmarva where he hit .224.

Brian Ward spent 2011 with the Frederick Keys and was part of the Mills Cup championship winning team. He hit .254 with seven homers and 32 RBIs.

RHP Steve Johnson split time in 2011 between Bowie and Norfolk. He finished the season 7-8 wtih a combined ERA of 4.20.

RHP Dylan Bundy was optioned to Class-A Delmarva.
