Orioles Minor League Camp- 3/24

ITO was on hand to watch the AAA game between the O's and Rays.

o In a Class AAA baseball game in Sarasota, the Orioles tied the Rays 2-2 Saturday.

o The Orioles started out strong getting 3 out of their first 4 batters on base. It started off when lead-off batter Xavier Avery had a full count walk. Ryan Adams followed suit by hitting a line drive to right. After a L.J. Hoes pop out, Joe Mahoney loaded the bases on a hit by pitch. However, the orioles could not take advantage of the situation as Josh Bell hit a groundball to the shortstop to force an inning ending double play.

o The Orioles got on the scoreboard in the fourth when lead-off man LJ Hoes hit a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence for a solo Home Run.

o The O's scored their next run in the 6th, when Joe Mahoney hit a line drive to right which scored Ryan Adams from second.

o The Orioles had a chance to take the lead in the 8th but couldn't capitalize. After a Xavier Avery walk, a Ryan Adams single and a LJ Hoes walk, the Orioles had the bases loaded and only one out. After a Aaron Baker strike out and a Josh Barfield pop out, the Orioles came up empty handed

o Starting pitcher Zach Clark pitched great in 3 innings of work. He started off the game with 2 called third strike outs. He did not allow a hit or walk forcing 7 straight out with the last to coming on a full count. He pitched a total of 32 pitches.

o RHP Oscar Villarreal gave up the only 2 runs for the Rays on 35 pitches. He gave up a leadoff double and after a 2 strike lineout to right the leadoff man was driven home on a line drive double to right. He recovered to get the next two batters out to end the inning but the damage wasn't done. After a leadoff full count walk and a groundout, he gave up another double to right which scored the man on first. He stopped the bleeding their though by getting the next 2 batters out on 3 pitches to end the inning and his day.

o LHP Casey Fossum couldn't have pitched much better getting the first 2 batters to strikeout, the first on 3 pitches and the second with a full count, and getting the last batter to pop to center. He pitched 12 pitches.

o RHP Brandon Erbe gave up a first pitch double on a line drive to right to the leadoff man. After a one pitch foul ball caught of an out, he gave up a 4 pitch walk. He quickly recovered by getting the next 2 batters out including a full count swinging strikeout. He pitched one inning with 21 pitches thrown.

o In an 11 pitch outing, LHP Yoshihiro Doi gave up a full count walk but was able to force the next batter to hit into a double play.

o RHP Jon Link got out of a jam today. He gave up a 2 strike grounder to right for a stand-up double to the lead-off batter. Then after a first pitch line drive to right and a full count walk he managed to get the next batter to pop out to center to end the inning.

o LHP Pedro Viola needed 23 pitches to get out of the inning. He got a full count groundout to start the inning but gave up a line drive to center. He got a 3 pitch swinging strikeout but then gave up a full count walk. He did manage to end the inning on another swinging strikeout.

o Ryan Adams had a great game getting 3 hits and scoring a run.

o Xavier Avery had a hit and was walked twice.

o Rob Widlanski, Joe Mahoney, each had singles with Mahoney's being an RBI. Lee Cruz, and Cory Aldridge each had doubles. Antoan Richardson and Blake Davis each had walks.
