Orioles Minor League Notes

ITO was on hand to watch the Orioles Double-A team play on Friday.

o In a Class AA baseball game in Sarasota, the Orioles tied the Red Sox 3-3 Friday.

o Michael Planeta leadoff the game with a liner to deep right for a stand up triple. He was driven in by Manny Machado when he hit a line drive to center for a single. Planeta was also walked in the game.

o In the fourth Tyler Townsend hit a stand up double to right and scored a run when Allan de San Miguel drove him home with a ground ball single to center. Townsend also had a single in the second.

o Jonathan Schoop hit a stand up double to left and was driven home with a Robert Stevens stand up double.

o Edgardo Baez had a hit and a walk, Buck Britton and Rob Widlanski also had a hits with Ronnie Welty and Ryan Zendra were walked each.

o Starter Jacob Pettit pitched gave up a couple of hits but managed to prevent any runs from scoring. He was solid in the first inning allowing only on person to get on base with a 2 strike hit by pitch. However he recovered to get the next batter to strike out swinging. He struggled in the 2nd inning. With one away, he gave up a grounder towards right. A diving stop by first basemen Tyler Townsend prevent the ball from rolling to right but the runner manager to beat the throw to Pettit covering first. The next batter was behind in the count 0-2 when he hit a pop fly but Right Fielder Michael Planeta lost it in the sun so it dropped for a single. He also gave up a full count walk in the inning. He came out in the third he gave up a single when he fielded a first pitch bunt that was close but called safe. He managed to recover and get the next three batters out including a full count ground-out and a 3 pitch strikeout swinging. In the fifth, he gave up a line drive to center and a stand up double on consecutive batters but no runs scored. He pitched 5 innings gave up 7 hits but had 3 strikeouts on 78 pitches.

o LHP Pedro Viola came in relief to pitch the 6. He did great getting 2 strikeouts and retiring the side on 12 pitches.

o RHP Sean Gleason gave up the only runs for the Red Sox. He gave up his first hit on a first pitch liner to left for a stand up double. The next batter drove him home on a full count line drive to right just over the reach of a jumping Townsend for a double. His day would not improve when he came out in the 8th. After a leadoff grounder to left and a full count strike out, a bad throw by the catcher allowed the runner to advance to third base. The next batter hit a ground out to first but managed to drive home the runner at third. The next batter was walked followed by two singles which scored one run before the managers decided to call the inning.

o Former MLB All-Star Dontrelle Willis pitched very well. He threw 8 pitches and retired the side while also recording a called third strike with his fast ball.

o RHP Greg Burke finished the game throwing 15 pitches giving up 2 leadoff hits before getting the next three batters out.
