Q&A with Orioles 17th Rd Pick Nick Grim

The Baltimore Orioles selected RHP Nick Grim from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.

Nick Grim, RHP--Selected 522nd overall (17th round)

1)Tell us what is going through your mind after being selected by the Orioles

I was really excited. The Orioles have always been a fun team to watch and I am really glad they have given me the opportunity to play for them.

2)Were you surprised it was the Orioles that selected you? Had you and the Orioles talked much before the draft?

Yes I had talked to them before the draft a little, but I was still kind of surprised they drafted me. I knew they were interested and I guess they just thought I'd be a good fit.

3)Do you have any idea what the Orioles organization or farm system is like?

I heard the teams in Maryland are really nice places to play. I also have heard that Major League Baseball is a huge grind and I'll have to adjust.

4)What type of pitches do you throw and at what speeds? Give us a scouting report please- what are your strengths and what do you need to work on the most?

I throw two fastballs-4-seam and 2-seam-which range from 92-95 MPH, I have a slider in the low 80s, a change-up and a curveball that clocks in the mid-to-low 70s. I would definitely say my slider is my best pitch. It's very sharp and I use it as my go-to pitch.

5)Did you have a favorite team growing up or a favorite player?

I didn't really have any favorite players but I was always a Dodgers fan.

6)Who would you compare your stuff to at the Major League level so Orioles' fans can get an idea of what you're like on the mound? and why?

I try to model my game around Roy Halladay but I wouldn't really compare myself to him. I actually don't really have a guy that I would compare my stuff to.

7)What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

I probably would say my best baseball moment was from Junior College when we won our last game of the regular season against our rival.

8)Are you looking to sign quickly and get your professional career started right away?

Yes I actually signed with the team yesterday and leave for Baltimore on Wednesday.

9)What do you think you will bring to the Orioles organization?

I'm a big competitor. I know that I can help the team at any level, whether it's as a starter or as a reliever. Whatever they need me to do, I can do.
