From Aug. 4-10, the Baltimore Orioles went on a 5-2 run, in large part thanks to shortstop J.J. Hardy, who’s this week’s Player of the Week for the Scout.com Network.
In six games (Hardy gook off Sunday’s 8-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals), he’s scored a major-league-best eight runs, rapped out 11 hits (T3), collected 20 total bases (including three doubles and two home runs) and drove in the third-most runs (7) in all of the big leagues.
Hardy went 11-for-23 over the past seven days, posting a .478 average that was third-best in all of baseball, and second in the American League behind Melky Cabrera, who went 11-for-22.
Hardy’s .500 on-base percentage ranked sixth in the big leagues over the past week, while his .870 slugging percentage and 1.370 OPS were third.
Hardy has notched mult-hit games in four of his last six games in the past seven days, highlighted by a 4-for-4, two-run performance to help down the regional rival Washington Nationals, 7-3, on Aug. 4.
Hardy continued to plague National League opponents, scoring five runs over two games against St. Louis, going 4-for-7 against the Redbirds with two home runs and five RBIs from Aug. 8-9, as the Orioles danced to two big wins, outscoring the Cardinals 22-5.
