Draft Q&A: 23rd Rd. Pick Anthony Kirbis

After going 8-2 with a 3.08 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 61 innings for Pt. Loma Nazarene (CA), Anthony Kirbis earned a spot pitching in the Junior College World Series. Inside, he discusses who he grew up rooting for in Buffalo, NY, his assortment of pitches and more.

ITW: Are you currently represented by an agent?

Anthony Kirbis: Yes. I am represented by Adam Bearman.

ITW: Did you know the Orioles were interested in taking you in the draft?

Anthony Kirbis: Yeah, I talked to a scout earlier in the year. I talked to them after the draft and have already signed with them.

ITW: Growing up in Buffalo, NY, do we really need to ask who your favorite team was growing up?

Anthony Kirbis: It's definitely the Yankees.

ITW: What former or current major leaguers do you try and model your game after?

Anthony Kirbis: I really watch Roger Clemens.

ITW: What assortment of pitches do you plan on throwing for the Orioles organization?

Anthony Kirbis: I throw a fastball, curveball and change-up. My fastball ranges from around 90-94 MPH, but generally it's around 90-92 and I get good run on it.

ITW: In tough situations, what pitch do you rely on to get you out of trouble?

Anthony Kirbis: Usually it's an up and in fastball or a curveball low and away.

ITW: Have the Orioles discussed with you how they plan on utilizing your skills?

Anthony Kirbis: They haven't said anything yet. I prefer to start but if they want me to come in and relieve, I will relieve.
