Draft Q&A: 41st Rd. Pick Russell Wilson

Although he lasted until the 41st round, Russell Wilson is one of the best athletes in Baltimore's 2007 draft. With an offer to play football at North Carolina State on the table, Russell has a tough decision ahead of him this summer. Recently, he dished to ITW about what will factor into his decision and more.

ITW: Where are you committed to play?

Russell Wilson: North Carolina State University to play football as a QB and baseball as a shortstop.

ITW: How important is it for you to attend college and play college baseball?

Russell Wilson: College is extremely important to me because my whole life has been surrounded with educated individuals. However, if I did go professional out of high school, I know I would continue my education in the future.

ITW: Has the coach at the college given you an idea of how he wants to use you?

Russell Wilson: Shortstop and closer.

ITW: Do you have an advisor?

Russell Wilson: No.

ITW: Who did you grow up rooting for in the major leagues?

Russell Wilson: Yankees.

ITW: Do you model your game after anybody?

Russell Wilson: Derek Jeter, due to his incredibly positive attitude and character.

ITW: Did you know the Orioles were looking at you?

Russell Wilson: Yes.

ITW: What positions have you played in high school?

Russell Wilson: Shortstop and pitcher.

ITW: Where do you feel most comfortable?

Russell Wilson: Shortstop.

ITW: Has anyone from the organization contacted you yet? What did they tell you?

Russell Wilson: Yes. They are pushing to get me to signed because of my athletic ability and my love for the game of baseball. They think my five tools will improve a ton more by playing baseball everyday because I have always played three sports my whole life.
