Pedro Florimon exploded onto the prospect scene with a blazing start to his 2006 season. After a promotion to short-season Aberdeen, however, the wheels came off a bit for the skinny infielder from the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately, it was more of the same in 2007 and Florimon never really got on track.

Florimon's main problem since getting out of rookie ball is his complete inability to recognize an advanced breaking ball. He can often look lost at the plate; either swinging at a breaking ball way out of the strike zone or standing frozen as one goes over the plate.

Florimon actually as impressive plate discipline, if all he is seeing are fastballs. There is some hope that seeing a few hundred more breaking balls will do the trick and he can regain his status as a potential top-of-the-order threat. He doesn't have much present power, but he could add a bit as his body matures. He already has very quick wrists. Florimon is also a plus runner, though he makes his share of mistakes on the basepaths.

With 36 errors in 111 games, Pedro Florimon has to work on his consistency. His errors tended to come in bunches, leading to some makeup concerns. Consistency is a common problem for A-ball infielders and most observers believe he'll be fine in the long run. Florimon has good range and a plus-plus arm at shortstop.

After a disappointing 2007, Florimon looks destined to open 2008 back in low-A Delmarva. Some feel he has the ability to turn everything around, if he is willing to work at it. If everyhing clicks, he has the pure ability to be a long-term regular in the big leagues, but that's a big if.
