The Padres managed to play their best overall game of the year today. Jon Leicester got the spot start and pitched 4 shutout innings. Logan Forsythe hit a 2 run HR (4) in the 1st inning and that is all the Padres needed as they won 6-1
Sam Deduno came on to pitch after Leicester and threw 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Evereth went 1-4, RS, and his 6th SB. Andy Parrino continued his hot start in AAA going 2-3, RS. Rizzo PR for Parrino in the 5th and added an RBI 2B in his only AB.
AA San Antonio won 3-2
The biggest news of the day was Kyle Blanks getting his 1st start at 1B. He had previously only been used as a PH or DH. Of course, the game would come down to Blanks' defense. With runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out in the top of the 8th, Lara looked ready to give up the hit that would break the 2-2 tie. Lara managed to pickoff the guy on 2nd. Heaving a sigh of relief Lara tossed a pitch right down the middle that the hitter was ALL over. He ripped a pitch down the 1st base line, but somehow giant Kyle Blanks was able to stick his glove in the air and snag what would have been an RBI 2B. Missions would score in the bottom of the inning and win 3-2
Casey Kelly got the start and had his best start of the year. Kelly went 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K. The only runs he allowed were on 2 solo HR in the 3rd inning. Coincidentally, the 1/2 inning prior Kelly failed at getting the bunt down and struck out (cost the team a run). Maybe he took his frustration into the field? Maybe just coincidence.
Kyle Blanks went 2-4, 2B, and a RS on the offensive side. Ali Solis went 1-3, with a HR (2). Darnell went hitless in 2 AB but did walk twice, and Jaff PH and singled in the 7th. The Missions managed only 4 runs in the last 3 games but at least salvaged the last game of the series
High A Lake Elsinore won behind a strong start from Fetter 5-2
Chris Fetter vs Vincente Padilla.... If you had Fetter FTW you were correct. Padilla only pitched to 5 batters (3 K) before being removed after 1.1 IP Fetter on the other hand tossed 5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, reminding people that when healthy, the giant Fetter can be a prospect Storm win 5-2
The Storm made a lineup change and move Galvez into the leadoff role. He responded by going 2-5, with 2 RS. Fuentes, Gyorko, and Freiman all had multi hit games. The biggest hit of the night came after the Storm managed to load the bases with no outs only to see Freiman and Gyorko pop out. Hagerty then walked to force in the first run of the game, then Rincon smashed a 2 RBI single to give the Storm an early 3-0 lead. Rincon would later add a sac fly.
