Minor League Recap May 2nd

Runs, runs, and lots of runs. In fact one Mission even hits for the cycle. Too bad only 1 team won.

AAA Tucson

Hefner was lit up. Literally....there might have been a fire that chased Hefner off the field after being hammered in 2 innings. To make matters work Martinez left in the 1st inning trying to get a ball in the dirt (K/WP). The offense mounted to 6 runs but were still blown out 6-13

Hefner lasted all of 2 innings, giving up 7 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. Poreda then came in and gave up 2 ER in 2 IP, although he did only walk 1. Munter pitched the final 2 IP only allowing a walk while striking out 4.

The offense put up 6 ER which was impressive but seemed lower than normal. Rizzo ONLY went 1-4, RS, SF, RBI. Cunningham went 1-3, 2 RS, 2 BB. Quiroz, filling in for Martinez, had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Clark blasted his 1st AAA HR.

AA San Antonio

Robertson hits for the cycle, Blanks comes a triple shy of the cycle, and Buschmann improved to 3-1 with a 17-6 win

Buschmann was once again solid, giving the Missions a quality start. 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. Busschmann had the shutout going until the 6th when he gave up 2 ER on 3 hits. Of course San Antonio responds by scoring 6 in their half of the 6th. Italliano was once again hit hard giving up 3 ER on 4 hits in 1 inning. He did strike out the side.

Everyone in the Missions lineup had a base hit except for the normal heroes, aka the Deckers. Robertson hit for the cycle by going 4-6, 2B, 3B, HR (2), 3 RS, 6 RBI. In less than a week he has raised his BA over 70 points to .301. Kyle Blanks also had a 4 hit day going 4-5, 2B, HR (1), 2 RS, 2 RBI. Anthony Contreras also homered (2), a 2 run shot in the 4th. While neither Decker had a hit they both walked 2x, scored 2x, and had an RBI.

High A Lake Elsinore

Similar to Hefner, Sullivan was also not able to go more than 2 innings. And similar to the T-Pads the pen wasnt able to keep it remotely close. The offense scored but still fell 7-12

The good news was of the 5 outs Sullivan got 3 of them were strikeouts. The bad news was that he also gave up 5 H, 2 BB, 7 R, 6 ER, including a grand slam in th 2nd. Osuna then gave up 3 ER in 3 IP which actually lowered his ERA to 9.18.

Galvez had another strong day in leading the offense He went 3-4, 3B, RS, 3 RBI. Freiman went 2-4, 2B, RS 2 RBI, BB. Unfortunately inbetween Freiman and Galvez was Rincon who went 0-5,. It also wouldnt be a Elsinore loss without 4 errors Rincon (7), Freiman 2 (4), Galvez (3).

Low A Fort Wayne

The Tin Caps pitchers once again suffered from giving up early runs. Cates gave up 3 R in the first 2 innings, and the Tin Caps were once again in a hole Unlike yesterday the Tin Caps bats did not come alive. Down 3-2 in the 9th Blackwood lined a 2 out RBI single to score the game tieing run and send the game into extras. Sadly in the 11th, with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs, Killian threw a SB attempt (of 3rd) into LF allowing the run to score. Tin Caps would go quietly into the night falling 3-4 in 11

Cates ended up going 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K. The sad thing was that the unearned run and 2 errors were both committed by Cates who couldnt seem to be able to throw to 1st. Lucily the pen was able to throw the final 6 innings without allowing an earned run Marona pitched 2 innings, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K. Dominick, who got the loss, pitched 2 IP, 1 H,1 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Since being lit up in his 2nd game of the year Adam Dominick has thrown 8 straight scoreless appearances (9.1 IP, 9 K)

The only multihit game came from Quiles who went 2-3, RS, BB. Cunningham also went 1-2, 3 BB. Blackwood had a PH RBI single in his only AB.
