Minor League Recap-May 30

Another big day for the Missions Vince Belnome and Sawyer Carroll and the Big Three in Lake Elsinore continue to hit.

AAA Tucson

Salt Lake City Bees 7 - TPadres 2

The TPadres were held to one extra-base hit 1b Anthony Rizzo, a double, as the Bees sent starting pitcher Will Inman too his fifth defeat of the season on the back of a pair of home runs by Bee's catcher Cole Armstrong that resulted in four RBIs.

Venable Update: 1 for 4, with two strikeouts.

AA San Antonio

Missions 9 - Springfield Cardinals 8

RF Sawyer Carroll and 2b Vince Belnome each hit two home runs as San Antonio's bullpen held off Springfield for the final three innings. Belnome, who had four RBIs today, has been red hot in the series with 5 hits in three games including a double and the pair of home runs today.

Carroll has also been punishing Springfield with six hits, three of them over the wall as he has 5 RBIs in the series. 1b Kyle Blanks and SS Beamer Weems also homered.

RHP Casey Kelley went five innings giving up seven runs, but only two of them were earned. Additionally the former shortstop doubled and now has four hits in eight at-bats. Closer Brad Brach came in for his fourteenth save in fifteen opportunities striking out the first two batters of the inning and getting the last batter to ground out to Weems to end the game.

Blanks Update: 2 for 3, home run and two walks. Blanks is now hitting .333/.404/.586. in May and its hard to see how he is not ready to leave San Antonio.

Prospect Watch: 3b James Darnell was 3 for 5 but LF Jaff Decker had another tough day going 0-4, with two strikeouts and a walk. May is easily the worse month Decker has had a pro hitting .170/.33/.260. What is really strange is Decker's struggles are coming on the road where he is hitting .179 as compared to .315 in Nelson Wolff.

High-A Lake Elsinore

Storm 12 - Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 4

The big three of the Storm, DH Jedd Gyorko, 3b Edison Rincon and C Jason Hagerty led the charge in the third inning driving in five of the six runs in the inning. Gyorko and Rincon have been hot all year but Hagerty is starting to hit as he did in the second half of last season in Fort Wayne with a .338 batting average in May.

2b/SS Dean Anna, who went 3 for 4 today with a pair of doubles, has quietly been having a strong month hitting .333/.430/.500.

Solid start by LHP Pedro Hernandez going six innings this six strikeouts against no walks and six hits. He allowed three earned runs.

Numbers: Rincon is tearing it up at the plate but fielding is still a concern with 7 errors in 12 games at third base including 3 in one game earlier in the month.

Low-A Fort Wayne

Great Lakes Loons 11 - TinCaps 2

TinCaps LHP starter Andrew Werner was touched up for twelve hits in six innings for four runs all of them earned. But the biggest blowup was off of former converted TinCaps/Storm outfielder Yefri Carvajal who gave up five earned runs in a third of an inning.

Offensively there wasn't much upside either but RF Rymer Liriano did hit his fourth home run of the season and SS B.J. Guinn was 2 for 3.
