Inman had problems finding home plate and the offense struggled to put anything together as they went 2-13 with RISP and left 12 men on base. T-Pads fall 2-9
After being arguably Tucson's most consistent pitcher throughout the first 2 months of the season, Inman has been roughed up over his last 2 starts. In that span Inman has allowed a not so great 12 ER on 15 H, 7 BB, and 4 K in 8 IP. On the year Inman has allowed 83 hits in only 67.2 IP, meaning hitters are hitting a crisp .302 off of him
There are some rumors that Jesus Guzman would be called up to take Cantu's roster spot, and possibly adding to those rumors was Guzman not appearing in the lineup today. Guzman has hit lefties to the tune of .475/.556/.918 on the year, and has the ability to play 1st, 3rd, and LF. In his spot was Tolleson who went 3-5, 2B, HR (7), 2 RS, RBI, BB. Cunningham also had 3 hits and nailed a runner trying to tag from 2nd.
AA San Antonio
Casey Kelly got the start and a pitchers duel ensued. Missions scratched a run across in the 2nd inning on a James Darnell double, and with Kelly and the bullpen that was all the Missions needed. Missions win AGAIN 1-0
Kelly had his best start in a month pitching 5 innings allowing only 3 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB and 4 K. The win improved Kelly to 5-2 on the year with a 3.72 ERA. In his previous starts Kelly has had problems with pitch counts, but today was the exception. Kelly needed only 60 pitches (43 strikes) to get through his 5 innings. The Missions might be trying to limit his innings as he has never thrown more than 95 innings in a year, and is already at 72 innings.
Jaff Decker got his 2nd consecutive day off, and hopefully it will help. Belnome once again filled his start in the 3 hole and once again had a multi hit game going 2-4. The biggest story though, was that James Darnell spent the first 7 innings of the game in LF. It was his first ever start in LF Darnell had 3 putouts in LF.
High A Lake Elsinore
Orlando Hudson was in town for day 1 of his rehab assignment. The fans were excited and the O Dawg was too. Hudson went 0-1 with 2 BB on the day before being replaced by Galvez. Lollis and Wilkes pitched well and the Storm won 6-1
Chris Wilkes hasn't really been the same since after the 2008 season. Since then it has been injury after injury. Wilkes finally is healthy and ready to show that he was worth the way above slot the Padres gave him to lure him away from a football and baseball scholoarship. The now 21 year old threw 2 scoreless innings for the first time in Elsinore allowing only 1 baserunner (walk) who was then CS Wilkes earned his first win since 2009 in Eugene. .
Some players go on hitting streaks where they have a bloop single maybe 1 multi hit game but an average below .300. Then there is Jed Gyorko. During Jed's current 9 game hitting streak Gyorko has gone 23-44, 13 RS, 6 2B, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 4 BB, 4 K. This includes going 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI in todays game. I think he is ready for AA.
Low A Fort Wayne
Before the game started, Lriiano was named as a replacement member of the all star game. Matt Jackson was dominant the bullpen was great, and the Tin Caps had just enough offense as they won 1-0
Matt Jackson struggled in his last start despite being named to the all star game. Jackson went 5 innings, 5 hits, 0 ER, 1 walk and 7 K. He had hitters off balance all game, and all hits allowed were singles. In 46 innings in Fort Wayne, Jackson has a 2.53 ERA while striking out 55 hitters and only walking 5.
There was not much in terms of offense. Like Dayton, no member of the Tin Caps had an extra base hit. In fact no Tin Cap had a base on balls either. Domoromo had the only multihit game going 2-4, while Guinn had the only RS going 1-3.
