Minor League Recap June 29th

All Star Game in San Antonio, and a bunch of walk offs up and down the farm.

AAA Tucson

No game today for the T-Pads.

AA San Antonio

All Star Game in the Texas League. Casey Kelly got the start and tossed a 1,2,3 1st inning with a K. James Darnell clubbed a 2 run HR, and Brach threw 1 pitch and got the save. South Texas All-Stars (San Antonio's team) wins 3-2

High A Lake Elsinore

Even with Rincon on the DL it was going to be hard for Blackwood to find time starting at 3rd with Gyorko still in the Cal League. The Storm found a way to put him in the OF and he rewarded the Storm with a 3-run HR. Unfortunately De Paula and a few key errors cost the Storm a lead. Bottom 9, Jason Hagerty came up and sent the fans home happy with a walk off blast (8). Storm win 7-6

In what will hopefully be Gyorko's last day in the Cal League, Jed just continued to hit. He hit a 2 run 1st inning HR which puts him at #1 in the Cal League and the Padres system with 17 on the year. He went 2-3 on the day with 2 RS, 2 RBI, BB and raised his triple slash line to an unfathomable .373/.438/.645. Gyorko now has 53 xbh is 77 Cal League games and what might be even more impressive then his 76 RS and 73 RBI at the half way point is the fact that he has 11 SB on the year. With the Texas League ASG today I really hope he is boarding a plane to San Antonio.

Jeremy McBryde kept the Storm close with another great job in middle relief. McBryde was able to come into the game with the bases loaded and the Storm down 2-4, and get the batter to ground into a force out to end the inning. He was then able to pitch 0's allowing the Storm to retake the lead. In his last 6 G (12 IP), Mcbryde has allowed 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 13 K. McBryde's ERA of 4.44 hasn't been this low since being tagged with the loss after allowing 2 ER in 1 inning on April 23rd.

Low A Fort Wayne

After the ugly day that was yesterday the Tin Caps put it all behind them and put up a quick 4 runs in the 1st. They would never look back as they win 11-4

Luis Domoromo continued to play well going 2-5, and hitting his 5th HR, a 2 run shot, in the 1st inning. The 19 year old just continues to be one of the best hitters in the Fort Wayne lineup. Domoromo is now hitting .320/,383/.464 in 48 G. The power numbers haven't really come through yet, but no one really hits for a lot of power in the MWL (especially in the 1st half), and he is 19. The one thing that everyone would like to see him improve on is his SB ratio. He has 2 SB compared to 4 CS this year.

Speaking of 1st inning 2 run HR, since that seems to be the theme today, Wes Cunningham belted a 2 run shot in the 1st a few batters after Domoromo. It was only his 2nd HR of the year, but both HR have come in June. The 1B is hitting RHP pretty well to the tune of .286/.386/.401 but has only a .376 OPS against southpaws.

Short Season Eugene

Another great pitching start for the Ems. Unfortunately the pen and offense couldn't hold it and going into the 9th inning the Ems were behind 2-1. With 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 9th Salem hits Clint Moore to load the bases for Spangenberg. He delivered with the game winning walk off. Ems win 3-2

Juan Herrara got his 3rd start of the year and didn't give up a run for the 2nd time. Herrera went 5 strong innings allowing 3 hits, 3 walks and a strikeout. The 19 year old Dominican has batters hitting only .163 off of him.

The Padres drafted 2 high profile catchers in the first 2 rounds, but while they remain unsigned, someone else got the opportunity to step up and prove their worth. That person in Eugene is Matthew Colantonio, the catcher from Brown is hitting a cool .350 on the year after going 3-4 this past game.

Rookie League Padres

AZL Padres gave up 5 runs (2 earned) in the final 2 innings and blew a big late inning game and fell 8-9

Alcantara, Gomez, and Karmas all homored in the losing effort for the Padres.
