Minor League Recap-July 9

Tough loss in Tucson and a big night for the Missions. Lake Elsinore continues to search for Gyorko's replacement and the TinCaps take advantage of 7 errors. Business as usual with the Ems.

AAA Tucson

Fresno Grizzlies 4 - TPadres 2

The TPadres lost the game in the bottom of the ninth as Grizzlie CF Tyler Graham was able to steal two bases in the ninth inning and RF Juan Christian's sacrifice fly brought him home to break the tie as Evan Scribner took his third loss of the year.

Offensively 2b Logan Forsythe was 4 for 5 and 1b Matt Clark was 2-4 with his 16th home run of the year. RF Aaron Cunnigham went 2 for 4 and is now hitting .326 on the season. WIth Kyle Blanks, Clark and Cunningham San Diego has some outfield options in the minors.

Blanks Watch: 0-5 with three strikeouts in left field.

AA San Antonio Missions 10 - Northwest Arkansas Naturals 2

After a tough June RHP Casey Kelly has bounced back in July with his second strong performance. In San Antonio he threw seven innings giving up only two earned runs and five hits to improve his record to 8-3.

Offensively CF Blake Tekotte hit his third home run of the month to give him 13 for the year and went 3-4 on the night with a walk. SS Andy Parrino also hit a three-run home run in his third game back in AA. Regardless if Parrino is in Tucson or San Antonio, he has put himself on the prospect map for this year.

High-A Lake Elsinore

Visalia Rawhide 7 - Storm 4 The Storm lost their third in the row as they continue to look for someone to replace Jedd Gyorko's big bat. The Storm staged a mini rally in the ninth plating two before back-to-back strikeouts by DH Jake Blackwood and C Jason Hagerty ended the game.

Despite striking out to end the game, Hagerty is maybe the one candidate to fill the void left by Gyorko. He was 3 for 5 on the night with an RBI and with the exception of April, Hagerty has hit .320 or better this season in Lake Elsinore.

LHP Jose De Paula took the loss going five innings and giving up five earned runs on nine hits.

Blast from the Past: Longtime MadFriars favorite Mike Baxter continues his rehab and was 2 for 3 on the night.

Low-A Fort Wayne

TinCaps 4 - Great Lakes Loons 3

The TinCaps took advantage of seven Loons errors to hang on in Midland Michigan for the victory. Left fielder Oscar Garcia was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Right fielder Rymer Liriano was 1-4 with a pair of RBIs.

2011 draft pick Dennis O'Grady of Duke, a 34th round draft pick, got his first professional win in his second outing with the TinCaps going 6 innings, giving up one earned run against five strikeouts and one walk. The 5'10" led the Blue Devils as a senior in wins, ERA and innings pitched.

Short-Season Eugene

Emeralds 7 - Yakima Bears 6

The 19-4 Emeralds, yes that is a professional baseball team with that gaudy record, continue to roll at home. USD's 1b Zach Kometani hit his first home run of the year and is now hitting .318/.375/.523 on the year.

Short-Season AZL

AZL Padres 5 - AZL Royals 4

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth LF Corey Adamson had the game winning single to put the tee-ball Padres on top. Adamson was 2 for 5 on the day.

Nicaraguan Uber Paz started the game and went five innings giving up one earned run on seven hits. RHP James Jones, a 33rd round draft pick in the 2011 draft, blew the save but got the win on Adamson's heroics.
