Padres Farm Report August 15th

On a night the Padres shell out big bucks for a some big prospects the farm finds a way to go 2-4.

AAA Tucson

Musgrave improves in his 2nd start but the T-Pads are lifeless on offense falling 7-1

The T-Pads had 2 former Beavers making rehab starts in AAA tonight. Chris "Dino" Denorfria started in CF and went 0-2, BB. He also threw out a runner at the plate. Ernesto Frieri also made a rehab appearance throwing the 7th inning. The Padre pitcher went 1 inning allowing 1 hit, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K.

Anthony Rizzo has cooled off a bit in the past few weeks. The "sad" thing is that cooling off means that he has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games with 3 2B and a HR. While he is still hitting nearly 360 during that stretch it is a far cry from what he WAS doing. 2 weeks ago Rizzo had 12 xbh in 9 G including 6 HR. More impressive might be that those 12 xbh came in 8 different games. Rizzo went 1-3, BB tonight.

AA San Antonio

Tekotte is back in San Antonio and the newly reunited OF trio propel the Padres to a 5-3 win

The biggest news from the game was that Robert Erlin was removed from the game after 2 innings. Since it was after 2 complete innings I would think it is an innings issue. The 20 year old Erlin has thrown 133.1 IP this year, compared to 114 last year. Considering the Missions still have the rest of this month and the playoffs they might be saving a few bullets. Erlin went 2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.

Jaff Decker went 2-5, 2B, 2 RS, RBI. The LF broke a 1-12 slump with a booming RBI double in the 1st inning. He would later fly out at the wall. Since his last HR 4 days ago Decker has managed to fly out to the warning track on 5 different occasions. Talk about just missing it.

High A Lake Elsinore

The offense is shut down against the pesky San Jose Giants. Storm fall 2-1

Michael Watt had one of his better starts of the year. The lefty threw 5 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K. It was the first time since July 1st that Watt had allowed 1or fewer runs in a start. It was also, go figure, the least amount of hits he has ever allowed in a start.

Low A Fort Wayne

Portillo continues to struggle with location and Spangenberg misses his 3rd straight game but the offense comes back and they hold on for a 6-5 win.

Adys Portillo has struggled mightily in his last 2 starts. Today he only lasted 2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K. In his last 2 starts (6.2 IP) Portillo has allowed 5 ER on 7 H and 8 walks. Of course the good news he also has 11 K in that time. In 75 IP this year Portillo has 49 BB and 89 K.

Chris Bisson has made the most of his, hopefully brief, return to 2B. In his last 3 G, Bisson has gone 6-15, 2 RS, 2B, 3 RBI. As weird as it sounds Spangenberg being promoted, and Bisson losing his natural position as a result, might have been the best thing for Chris. Since moving to 3rd Bisson is hitting .319/.439/.362 with 10 BB compared to 11 K.

Short Season Eugene

Duanel Jones was promoted to Eugene and immediately payed dividends, unfortunately he was the only one as the Ems fell 7-1.

Jones was hitting .267/.349/.500 at the time of the promotion. The 18 year old 3B had hit safely in 10 of his last 11 G including his 2nd big league 3B yesterday. Jones was currently leading the AZL Padres in HR (8) and 2nd in RBI (23). Like many Dominican kids, Jones has a problem with strikeouts as he has K'd 41 times in 34 G. Jones went 1-2, RS, BB, SB today in his Ems debut.

Rookie League Padres

AZL Pads lost 8-4 to their arch enemies(?) the Mariners 8-4. Cody Decker went 1-3, BB, 2 K in his 4th game with the Pads and 1st time playing 1st.
