Padres Farm Report August 17th

Pedro Hernandez (AA), William Scott (SS A), and James Needy (AZL) go a combined 17 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 17 K... Cates (A), De Paula (A+), Leicester 12.1 IP, 19 H, 16 ER, 8 BB, 14 K. Needless to say we went 3-3

AAA Tucson

3 singles…that's it for the T-Pads offense today. LeBlanc could have done better than that. 3 H, 0 BB, 10 K. Not a good night as the T-Pads fall 4-0

Nothing good to report. Dino went 1-4, K as the RF. Poreda went 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. He now has 65 K in 59 IP but also has 57 BB.

AA San Antonio

Hernandez outduels throws a gem, and the offense teed off of former teammate Nick Greenwood. Missions win 6-0

Of the 6 starters in the Mission rotation, Pedro Hernandez is the shortest (it says 5'10" but I'm as tall as him and I am 5'8"), BUT pitches like the biggest Hernandez went 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. In his last 3 starts Hernandez has gone 3-0, 17 IP, 13 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 20 K. Not bad for the #6 starter. Hernandez also had a very nice 7-3 GO/FO ratio which improved upon his 1.18 ave stat.

High A Lake Elsinore

De Paula doesn't last long, offense comes back to tie, but working in his 2nd inning Zach Herr and then McBryde give up 5 runs leading to an 11-6 loss.

What happened to Reymond Fuentes? The young CF who BA considered a top 10 prospect has really struggled since the ASB. He is hitting .227/.320/.343 with 44 K in 45 G and only 6 SB (4 CS). In a hitters league, Fuentes only has a .686 OPS which is one of the lowest on the team. Fuentes went 0-2 tonight before Olabisi came on to PH for him in the 4th.

Low A Fort Wayne

Cates has 1 bad inning and the offense went a Padre-esque 2-14 with RISP. Tin Caps fall 8-4

The line on Cates tonight looks down right awful. 5.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 8 K. But that line does not tell just how well Cates pitched. After 5 innings Cates was at 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K. While that might not be anything to write home about, Cates had hitters offbalance for a good majority of his outing. Cates has struck out 8 in back to back starts for the 1st time all season. It is also the 4th straight loss for Cates whose last win came on July 7th.

Short Season Eugene

William Scott was outstanding in his 2nd professional start and the offense puts up a 7 spot in the 7th to blow out Everett 8-3.

With the Needy demotion, Scott was able to make his 2nd start of the year in his 16th appearance. He pitched an outstanding 6 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 6 K. In his last 2 appearances Scott has now gone 11 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K. Scott is a 20 year old RHP who was drafted in the 32nd round by the Padres in the 2010 draft. Matt Branham made his 1st appearance in a few months throwing a scoreless 7th with 1 H, 1 BB, 2K. Wilkes also rebounded from allowing 4 ER in 1 inning over the weekend by tossing a 1,2,3 8th with 2 K.

Rookie League Padres

After a few horrible outings in Eugene, James Needy was sent to the AZL. He responded by throwing 5 beautiful innings (2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K). Cody Decker went 3-5, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, and Martinez continues to smash the ball (4-5, 2 3B, 3 RS). AZL wins 12-2
