Padres Farm Report August 18th

A surprisingly good day DOTF as the Ems and T-Pads come back from deficits to win, and Jaff changed a game with 1 swing of the bat.

AAA Tucson

I guess this is why you should never count a team out. Down 6-0 in the 8th the T-Pads score 8 runs, 6 of which came with 2 out as they come back to beat Nashville 8-6.

Brad Brach has fallen on tough times recently. He was temporarily removed from the closers role, and gave up 3 ER in his past 2 appearances. But after 4 days off (mainly since the T-Pads don't win), Brach was called on to throw the final 2 innings tonight. He allowed only 1 baserunner while striking out 2 for his 7th save of the year with Tucson and 30th of the year overall.

AA San Antonio

Oramas continued to dominant and 1 swing of the bat from Jaff Decker propelled the Missions to a 6-2 win.

The Missions were stifled through the first half of the game by San Diego boy Deryk Hooker, but like so many times this season the Missions took advantage of the opposition's bullpen. In the 7th, tied at 1, Decker hit a laser shot to RF to turn the tie to a 5-1 lead. It was the 16th HR and 79 RBI for Decker. That was Decker's 2nd HR of the month of August, which now gives Decker 2 HR in 4 straight months after hitting 8 in April. Oramas went 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

High A Lake Elsinore

The Storm score 6 runs in the final 4 innings but still get blown out 13-7

Jonathon Galvez made his return to the Storm lineup after missing the past 5 days. He came back with a Hundly-esque 3-4, 2 2B, 2 RS, SF, RBI. The 2B now has a 7 game hitting streak, and has raised his line to .302/.369/.490. Yes it is the Cal League, but for a 20 year old middle infielder to be putting up these numbers, is still impressive.

Low A Fort Wayne

Through the 1st half of the game it seemed to be Spangenberg and Liriano vs the Whitecaps. The 2 batters score the first 4 runs for the Tin Caps and 6 of the first 7 runs. Finally the rest of the offense joins in the party and the Tin Caps win 11-2

After returning back to action by PH and coming into the game late yesterday, Spangenberg returned to his #2 spot in the order tonight. He responded by going 2-4, HR (2), 3 RS, RBI, BB. In his last 3 starts Spangenberg is a nice 7-12, 6 RS, 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB. After a horrendous July in which he hit .154/.225/.169, Cory has turned it on hitting .311/.380/.533 in August, and has finally raised his BA over .200

Short Season Eugene

Barbato was roughed up early but the pen throws 5 scoreless innings allowing only 1 hit, and the offense comes back to win late 5-4.

While 5 runs is nice, the Ems were keen on missed opportunities. The Ems left 11 on base and went 4-15 with RISP. 4 different players had multihit games and Donavan Tate (who was 1 of the 4) stole his 17th base of the year, while also picking up his 5th CS.

Rookie League Padres

On the bright side, the fact that Cody Decker is in Peoria gives me something to write about on a daily basis. Across a 2x header, Decker went 2-2, 2 BB, playing 1 game as a DH and 1 as a 1B. He did commit his 1st error in rehab in game 2. AZL blows a 2-0 lead in game 1 falling 8-2, then held on to win game 2 4-3
