Tin Caps go up 2-0 early. In the 5th Cates cant find home plate gets removed after walking the basses loaded. Pen comes in and gives up a single and a HR. Game goes to 6-2 before the Tin Caps come back with 3 in the 7th, They score another in the 8th to tie. Bottom 8, Domoromo makes a crazy leap at a ball that just misses his glove, goes high off the wall for a triple Run would score on a bang bang play at the plate. Top 9 Noel hits a ball in the gap and before anyone can blink is standing at 3rd. He comes in to tie the game at 7, on a single by Spangy. With Liriano up a ball gets away a few feet from the catcher, Spangy takes off but gets thrown out on a great throw by the catcher. Domo would get a 2 out single, and Powers lines a ball hard into the RF gap. The CF makes a crazy diving catch robbing Powers of a double and the Tin Caps of the lead. Quack came in and gave up a leadoff double. After a bunt Quack loads the bases with 1 out. Bases loaded walk to end the game. Quack was ahead 1-2, just missed to go to 2-2, fouled off, missed badly to go to 3-2, then just missed inside to end the game and season for the Tin Caps 8-7
The problem in the series was NOT the offense. Spangenberg went 3-4, RBI, BB and hit a cool .471 in the series. If thats not good enough Liriano went 2-5, 2 RBI in the game and hit a cool .600 during the playoff run. It looks like both players will end up in the Cal League next year and should to continue to pt up mammoth offensive numbers. Great season guys
Cal League South Championship Series best of 5. Series tied at 1
Great starting pitching. With the scored tied at 0 in the 7th the Storm get a couple of 2 out scratch singles to chase the starter. The new pitcher comes in and BAM 2 RBI double by Galvez. Rincon would then single but Galvez was thrown out at the plate. Beard would replace Werner and immediately give up a 2 run HR to tie the game in the 8th. Bottom 8, a leadoff walk to Payne is always a good start. After a bunt by Fuentes, the other 1/2 of the Dominican duo (Valdez) would hit an RBI double to give the Storm a 3-2 lead. Storm win 3-2 and take a 2 games to 1 lead and look to take the series tomorrow at home.
Andrew Werner has struggled in his past few starts. He was never horrible, but no where near the ace he looked like when he first got to the Storm. Well today he pitched like an ace. 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K. GREAT JOB WERNER! 1 more... 1 more!
