Cardinals 2012 AFL interviews: Kevin Siegrist

In our continuing series of interviews with St. Louis Cardinals prospects competing in the Arizona Fall League, we speak with left-handed pitcher Kevin Siegrist.

Left-handed pitcher Kevin Siegrist began 2012 with an invitation to major league spring training camp, but ran into a pair of injuries that did not allow him to get back to full-time action until late June.

After going a perfect 6-0 with a 2.28 ERA in 10 starts for A-Advanced Palm Beach, Siegrist was promoted to Double-A Springfield at the start of August. The 23-year-old was assigned to the Arizona Fall League to make up for lost time and continue to improve.

I spoke with Siegrist prior to his Tuesday start at Mesa during which he threw three scoreless innings on one hit and three walks. That outing lowered his AFL ERA to 2.40. To date, Siegrist has fanned 19 and walked just five in 15 innings of work.

Coming soon: This interview is part of a series of interviews with the seven Cardinals prospects still competing in the 2012 Arizona Fall League.
