MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 17

At the end of the day it is not about wins and losses. But that doesn't mean the minor league teams don't want to win. While the TinCaps blew their third straight lead, at least Tucson and Lake Elsinore were able to hold on for wins.

Salt Lake City Bees 7 – Tucson Padres 10

Key Statistics RF Jaff Decker 2-4, 2B, HR (3), 2 RS, 3 RBI, BB; 3B Jesus Merchan 3-4, 2 2B, 3B, 2 RS, 2 RBI; RHP Brad Boxberger 1.2 IP, 2 H, 5 K (S, 1).

Prospect Watch: In 47 games last year in San Antonio, Jaff Decker hit three homeruns. In 12 Pacific Coast League games this year Decker has now reached that home run total. Decker worked hard over the offseason with coaches on being more aggressive at the plate. So far it has resulted in more home runs, but also an even higher strikeout rate (nearly 50%)… Sean O'Sullivan started the game but couldn't get out of the fifth. Tucson fans are still waiting to see the pitcher that pitched so well in spring training… Brad Boxberger had to come into the game in the eighth with the bases loaded to record the five out save. The good news was that all five outs recorded were punchouts. The bad news was that all three inherited runners scored.

He went 1-3, 2B, RS, RBI, and BB in today's game… After stealing eight bases in his first three games, Cory Spangenberg has swiped one bag in his last seven contests. After starting off 7-14, Cory is now 4 for his last 21 with 1 RS, 2 2B, 0 RBI, 1 BB, and 10 strikeouts.

IN his second Midwest League start the right hander induced seven more groundouts compared to three flyouts. The unearned run was actually due to a passed ball with a runner on third and two out… John Hussey, who last pitched for the Tin Caps on June 11, 2010, threw three scoreless innings. allowing only two hits and striking out three.
