MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 6

Stauffer, Roach, and Weickel all came to pitch. The three starters each went six innings for a combined total of three runs. Too bad the offenses in Fort Wayne and San Antonio didn't show up as they combined for one in two crushing defeats. On the plus side Tucson was able to win a series behind James Darnell's bat.

Tucson Padres 6 – Salt Lake City Bees 1

Key Statistics RHP RHP Tim Stauffer 6 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K; DH James Darnell 3-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI; RF Dan Robertson 2-5, 2 RS, RBI, SB (9)

Prospect Watch: Normally when a player goes on a rehab assignment you can see them struggle at first to shake off the rust. With Darnell it is just about going from good to great, and with each passing at bat you can physically see him turn on the ball better and hit the ball with more authority. Darnell hit a two RBI triple to break the game open, and show off his legs. Darnell has now hit safely in all seven games in AAA… Tim Stauffer is just chomping at the bit to get back to San Diego. Last year's projected opening day starter has struck out eight in each of his last two starts, and has allowed two or fewer runs in five straight starts.

Corpus Christi Hooks 3 – San Antonio Missions 0

Key Statistics RHP RHP Donn Roach 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K; CF Rico Noel 1-3, BB; DH Cody Decker 1-3, BB; RHP Matt Stites 1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 K, 2 HR

Prospect Watch: After allowing 20 hits and 10 earned runs over two starts at the of April, Roach is back to his ground ball twirling ways. Over his last two starts Roach has allowed just one run on seven hits, while posting a stellar 15-4 GO/FO rate… The Missions have now lost four of their last five, averaging less than three runs per game. The biggest reason has been the lack of offense from three of the top Texas League hitters in April. Fuentes (.143) Williams (.261) and Blackwood (.095) have all seen their batting averages plummet over the last week.

. Peoria Chiefs 4 – Fort Wayne TinCaps 1

Key Statistics RHP Walker Weickel 6 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K; 3B Gabriel Quintana 2-4, RS; RF Corey Adamson 2-3

Prospect Watch: Walker Weickel made it through the sixth for the first time in his career, however was tagged with the loss as the offense was once again shut down by the Chiefs. Weickel kept his outstanding GO/FO ratio with 12 groundouts in the game… Gabriel Quintana has been on fire recently. He has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 and is hitting a cool .425/.452/.550 over the streak.
