Brandon Koess's move to the rotation is going well, but the Tucson bullpen is still a mess. Elsinore picks up the win in the resumed game from Thursday, but drops the nightcap. And Fort Wayne continued their slide, dropping their fifth straight.

Prospect Watch: Righty Brandon Kloess is enjoying the chance to work as a starter. The 28-year-old righty, who the Padres got from the White Sox for Blake Tekotte in the offseason, worked 5.2 innings in his second start, and gave up only one run on five hits. In his two starts, he has struck out 13 with only three walks in 10.2 innings. … Yasmani Grandal caught all 12 innings as he prepares to return to the big league club. He added two singles and a double and hit in all seven games he has started for Tucson. … Cam Maybin had three more plate appearances, in which he drew a walk and singled to center.

San Antonio Missions were rained out

After getting rained out Saturday night, the Missions and Naturals will play a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. Jose De Paula should be on track for the opener with Matt Andriese in the nightcap.

Prospect Watch: Yeison Asencio nearly doubled his extra-base hit total for the month Saturday. When Thursday night's game resumed, he smacked a solo homer to break the scoreless tie and set up a win for the Storm. In the nightcap, he had a double before adding a single as well. He has now hit in seven straight games and seems to again be finding his feel at the plate. … Travis Jankowski had a run-scoring single in the resumed game and then went 2-for-3 with a walk in the second game. Once on base, he ran wild all night, swiping four bases total. He now leads all Advanced-A players with 25 on the year. … Frank Garces capped a really good month of May, giving up two earned runs over six innings. The 23-year-old lefty posted a 2.77 ERA with a strong 31:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio for the month.

Prospect Watch: Walker Weickel's struggles continued as the big righty gave up three runs in five labored innings. While he again matched his career high with four strikeouts, he walked three more hitters, taking his season total to 17 in 34.2 innings of work. As he continues to find his mechanics, he has completely ignored baserunners, allowing the Hot Rods to swipe six bases in seven attempts, one less than he surrendered the last time out. … Undersized shortstop Stephen Carmon had a great power day, clubbing a double and a homer. The South Carolina – Aiken alum's calling card is his defense at shortstop, but he's hitting .300 for the month with a solid 841 OPS.
