MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: July 3

Matt Andriese, Matt Wisler, and Justin Hancock combine to throw 18 scoreless innings as Tucson, San Antonio, and Lake Elsinore all win.

Sacramento River Cats 0 – Tucson Padres 2

Key Statistics RHP Matt Andriese 7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K; LHP Tommy Layne 0.1 IP, 2 BB; CF Jaff Decker 1-4, RBI; 3B Gregario Petit 3-4.

Prospect Watch: Making just his second AAA start of the year, Matt Andriese turned in arguably the best pitching performance of the year for a Tucson Padre. He had a no-hitter going into the sixth, and after throwing nearly 40 pitches through the first two innings, Andriese settled down to throw only 47 pitches over the next five innings. Andriese kept pounding the zone, and when the River Cats hitter's did make contact, it usually resulted in a weak ground out. Andriese is still only 23, leads the organization in wins (9), and if the Padres become sellers, could be a name we see in San Diego before the year is through.

San Antonio Missions 4 – Tulsa Drillers 0

Key Statistics RHP Matt Wisler 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 Ks (W, 6-4, 2,93 ERA); SS Jeudy Valdez 3-4, 2B, RS, 2 RBI, SB (9); 1B Tommy Medica 1-4, 2B, RS

Prospect Watch: Two Mission's returned from long absences on the DL. C/1B Tommy Medica, who had been out since April 26th, returned immediately back to his #3 spot in the batting order. He doubled and scored the first, and technically game winning, run of the game… OF Reymond Fuentes also returned from the DL after being out for just over a month. Fuentes, who was just named to the Futures Game, did not have the luxury of a rehab assignment, and instead is coming back on the job. He came in late as a defensive substitution and went 0-1 at the plate… Wisler's last two starts 12 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 14 K.

Lake Elsinore Storm 5 – High Desert Mavericks 3

Key Statistics RHP Justin Hancock 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K (W, 7-1, 1.51 ERA); RHP Johnny Barbato 2 IP, 4 K; LF Jeremy Baltz 2-3, 3 RBI, BB; SS Jace Peterson 1-2, HR (6), 3 RS, RBI, 2 BB.

Prospect Watch: Back to back outstanding performances by Storm starting pitchers. RHP Justin Hancock is now 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA since being promoted. He has not allowed an earned run in 13 innings. While Hancock does not generate the swing and misses of other top prospects, he generates a large number of ground ball outs with good command of the strike zone… Jeremy Baltz had another muti-hit game and has now hit safely in all 13 games since being promoted. With two more hits and a walk, Baltz raised his Cal League OPS back over 1.000… Travis Jankowski stole his 50th base of the season.

South Bend Silver Hawks 4 – Fort Wayne TinCaps 3

Key Statistics SS Everth Cabrera 0-4, RS, BB, 4 K; RHP Zach Eflin 5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K (L, 4-5, 3.30 ERA); FL Luis Domoromo 3-3, BB; 3B Diego Goris 2-5, RS, RBI.

Prospect Watch: With a day game in Boston on the Fourth of July, Everth Cabrera might get one extra game in Fort Wayne. He might need it after failing to make contact in each of his five at-bats. Cabrera came up with the tying run on second, no outs, in the ninth and struck out looking... Zach Eflin gave up four runs in a start for the first time since April. Two of the runs were unearned as a passed ball on strike three allowed a runner to get to first. A home run followed putting the TinCaps in a 2-0 hole in the first. Oddly enough that was the only strikeout Eflin recorded.

For further reading on the TinCaps' please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Eugene Emeralds 2 – Hilsboro Hops 5

Key Stats: RHP Bryan Verbitsky 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K (L, 0-1, 1.59 ERA); C Miguel Del Castillo 2-3, 2B, RBI

Prospect Watch: Verbitsky is the biggest name from the 2013 draft class in Eugene now. The Hofstra right-hander finished his career as second all-time in saves but the organization right now sees his future as a starter. He was thought of something of an overdraft in the third round but in four starts he has a 1.59 ERA.

AZL Angels 5 – AZL Padres 6

Key Stats: SS Franchy Cordero 2-5, 2B, RS; LF Jose Urena 1-4, HR (3), 2 RBI; C Jose Ruiz 2-3, 3B, RS, 2 RBI, RHP Carn Stewart 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
