MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: July 4

On Independence Day Tucson and San Antonio keep rolling while the bats stay at home for the Storm, TinCaps and Emeralds.

T-Pads 6 - Las Vegas 51s 5

Key Statistics: CF Jaff Decker 2-3, 3 RBIs, HR(7); 3B Gregorio Petit 2-4, RBI; C Rene Rivera 3-4; P Sean O'Sullivan 1-2, 2B and is hitting .387; RHP O'Sullivan 4.2 IP 8 H 4 R 4 ER BB 6 Ks; RHP Brad Brach (W, 3-1) 2.0 IP BB 3 Ks; RHP Miles Mikolas (S,19) 1.0 IP H R ER HR.

Prospect Watch: Since June 1 Jaff Decker has hit .319/.412/.486 and has made only one error in the outfield for the year while splitting time between right and center field. His strikeouts are down and he is using left-center much better...Sean O'Sullivan has pitched well and if another injury pops up could get an opportunity but he can also really hit. O'Sullivan, who was a former position prospect as a third baseman at Grossmont College, is hitting .387/.424/.548 in 33 plate appearances and .500 in seven pinch-hit at-bats...Since coming down from San Diego Brad Brach has been pitching as a middle reliever going multiple innings instead of his accustomed one inning closer role. He hasn't allowed an earned run since June 4.

? Prospect Watch: Roach, Clay Zavada, Leonel Campos and McBryde held Tulsa to only three hits as the Missions won their fifth straight...Although the bats didn't have one extra-base hit all night it was still enough to plate four runs...Tommy Medica was 1-3 in his second game back..Although his batting average isn't quite there yet Corey Spangenberg has been improving every game his BB/K ratio is now 11/15...Rico Noel is the Texas League leader in stolen bases with 37.

South Bend Silver Hawks 6- TinCaps 0

Key Statistics: 2B Maxx Tissenbaum 2-4; SS Tyler Stubblefild 2-3; LHP Max Fried 5.0 IP 3 H 2 R ER BB 8 Ks.

Prospect Watch Although Fried got the loss he pitched well with only one earned run against eight strikeouts lowering his ERA from 3.76 to 3.62..After ending April with an OPS of .878 Corey Adamson has yet to put up an OPS of better than .650 in May and June..The TinCaps have solid pitching but need a bat in the outfield and seem ready for 2013 first round pick Hunter Renfroe when he signs.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette

Spokane Indians 8- Emeralds 3

Key Statistics: DH Fernando Perez 3-4, 2B; CF Ronnie Richardson 2-3, RBI, 2 BBs; SS Chase Jensen 1-3, BB; RHP Erik Cabrera 5.0 IP 2 H 2 BB 5 Ks; RHP Michael Kelly (BS 1)(L,0-1) 0.1 1 H 5 R ER 3 BBs.

Prospect Watch Former 2011 supplemental first round pick Michael Kelly's troubles continue as he had a brutal seventh inning in the Emerald's loss after a strong start by Erik Cabrara. Opening the seventh inning with a 3-2 lead Kelly allowed a single, walked the next batter and then made an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt to load the bases. He got the next batter to ground into a force out and then walked the next two batters before being replaced...2012 third round pick Fernando Perez continues to be someone to watch with a pair of hits last night. The former Central Arizona JUCO star was widely regarded as one of the better hitters of the class and if he plays well could be on the fast track to Fort Wayne.
