MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: July 8

Matt Andriese, Keyvius Sampson, Justin Hancock, Walker Weickel, and Bryan Verbitsky all took the mound. Unfortunately only one of the above ended up with a win.

Tacoma Rainers 2 – Tucson Padres 0

Key Statistics 1B Yonder Alonso 0-3; RHP Matt Andriese 6 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (L, 1-1, 2.50 ERA); RF Kalian Sams 3-3

Prospect Watch: T-Pads were shut down by top pitching prospect James Paxton. The left-hander threw a complete game shutout allowing only five singles. Yonder Alonso made his first rehab start for AAA Tucson, playing six innings and fielding his position with ease but was hitless at the plate.

For further reading on the Tucson Padres please see the Arizona Daily Star.

San Antonio Missions 7 – Springfield Cardinals 4

Key Statistics RHP Keyvius Sampson 5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K (W, 6-4, 2.90 ERA); 1B Tommy Medica 2-5, 2B, HR (8), RBI; 3B Jake Blackwood 1-4, HR (6), 4 RBI; SS Jeudy Valdez 2-4, 2B, HR (5), 2 RBI

Prospect Watch: After three straight dominant starts Sampson came back to earth today. He allowed more hits in five innings today then he did in the previous 20 innings. All four runs were allowed in the fourth inning on two homeruns… Six different Missions had a multi-hit game, however Everett Williams failed in his pinch hit-attempt. He has not had a hit since June 23rd.

For further reading on the San Antonio Missions please see the San Antonio Express-News.

Lake Elsinore Storm 1 – San Jose Giants 12

Key Statistics RHP Justin Hancock 3.2 IP,7 H, 5 ER, 2 BB 3 K; 1B Lee Orr 2-4; LF Jeremy Baltz 0-3, BB, 2 K

Prospect Watch: The Storm committed more errors (six), then they had hits (four). 3B Travis Whitmore committed four errors and Hedges and Baltz also added to the error prone game. San Jose had multi-run innings in each of the middle innings that put the game out of reach… The Storm had zero extra base hits and zero walks in the game.

For further reading on the Storm please see the Southwest Riverside News Network.

Great Lakes Loons 5 – Fort Wayne TinCaps 6

Key Statistics RHP Walker Weickel 4.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; LHP Chris Nunn 2 IP, 3 K (W, 7-0, 2.14 ERA) C Dane Phillips 4-4, RS, BB

Prospect Watch: Another disappointing start for a TinCaps pitcher. Weickel didn't make it out of the fifth inning for the first time since a May 19th start @ Lake County. He also walked more than he struck out for the first time since April... Since the All Star Break Dane Phillips is hitting .389/.463/528

For further reading on the TinCaps' please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Eugene Emeralds 1 – Spokane Indians 2

Key Stats: RHP Bryan Verbitsky 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 1 K; RHP Tayron Guerrero 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K; RF Henry Charles 1-3 HR (3), RBI

AZL Angels 3 – AZL Padres 11

Key Stats: SS Franchy Cordero 5-5, 3B, 4 RS, RBI, SB (5); 2B Josh VanMeter 2-4, 2 RS, RBI, BB; RHP Adrian De Horta 3 IP, 1 H, 4 K

Prospect Watch: Franchy, yes it really is "Franchy", Cordero was five for five today and is one of the more interesting prospects in the desert. A 6'3" left-handed hitting shortstop from the Dominican Republic hit .270/.372/.374 but hit .354/.456/.492 in August. He's only 18 and is someone to keep an eye on.
