MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: July 11

Renfroe gave the Ems a much needed offensive boost as he led Eugene to a victory. Elsewhere in the sytem a good outing by Donn Roach in San Antonio but Max Fried struggles in Fort Wayne.

Las Vegas 51's 11 – Tucson Padres 3

Key Statistics 1B Yonder Alonso 2-3; RHP Anthony Bass 5 IP, 11 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 4 HR (L, 2-3, 7.75 ERA); CF Jaff Decker 1-3, 2 RBI.

Prospect Watch: After starting out slow, it seems the temporary call up was just what Decker needed. Since being sent down Decker is hitting .350/.363/.454. While he is walking less, he is also striking out less. This more consistent content has led to a higher batting average and power.

For further reading on the Tucson Padres please see the Arizona Daily Star.

San Antonio Missions 1 – Midland Rockhounds 0 (10 innings)

Key Statistics RHP Donn Roach 6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K (3.92 ERA); RHP Jeremy McBryde 1.2 IP, 4 K (W, 2-3, 2.31 ERA); 2B Cory Spangenberg 1-4, RS, SB(8).

Prospect Watch: For the second straight night the Missions' were un-hittable. After looking like all hope was lost, Roach has allowed only five baserunners in his last two starts (11.1 innings). In his last nine starts Roach has only allowed more than two earned runs twice. He still has a long way to go to regain the top prospect status that he had at the beginning of the season, but its a start… The winning run scored thanks to a one out single and stolen base by Spangenberg. He scored on a two out walkoff by Asencio.

For further reading on the San Antonio Missions please see the San Antonio Express-News.

Lake Elsinore Storm 5 – Bakersfield Blaze 4

Key Statistics 2B Jedd Gyorko 2-4, RS, RBI; RHP James Needy 6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K; C Austin Hedges 2-4, RS; CF Travis Jankowski 1-4, 2 SB (55).

Prospect Watch: The last start of the June, Needy suffered his worst outing of the year allowing seven runs in just 4.2 innings. Since then Needy has thrown 16 innings allowing only one run. While his BAA (.258) isn't too impressive, and averaging nearly 4 BB/9 IP is awful, he doesn't give up runs either. Needy has proven to be the most dependable Storm starter this season.

For further reading on the Storm please see the Southwest Riverside News Network.

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6 – Fort Wayne TinCaps 3

Key Statistics LHP Max Fried 3.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K; CF Mallex Smith 2-4, RS; SS Tyler Stubblefield 2-3, RS, 2B, BB.

Prospect Watch: Another rough day for a Fort Wayne starter. While Max Fried is arguably the Padres number one prospect, he still has a lot to prove before he reaches San Diego. Fried allowed the most hits in a start during his brief minor league career. Since the All Star Break Fried is 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA.

For further reading on the TinCaps' please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Eugene Emeralds 6 – Everett Aquasox 3

Key Stats: RF Hunter Renfroe 2-4, 2B, RS, BB; RHP Yimmi Brasoban 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K; SS Felipe Blanco 2-3, 2 2B, RS.

Prospect Watch: Hunter Renfroe reached base three times in his professional debut as he helped the Emeralds break a three game losing streak. His first professional hit was an infield single in the fourth inning.

If Renfroe puts up some good numbers in the next few weeks look for San Diego to try to get him to Fort Wayne to finish the season so he can start in Lake Elsinore for 2014.

For further reading on the Emeralds, see the Eugene Register-Guard.

AZL Cubs 6 – AZL Padres 2

Key Stats: RF Franmil Reyes 1-4, 2 RBI; RHP Payton Baskette 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K.
