MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: July 21

A pair of home runs by Tommy Medica who showed once again when healthy he is one of the best hitters in the organization. A tough loss for Joe Ross and Jaff Decker is hitting in Tucson.

Colorado Springs Sky Sox 6 - T-Pads 4

Key Statistics: CF Jaff Decker 1-3, 2 BB, 2B; 2B Dean Anna 2-4, 2 RBI, 2B; C Chris Robinson 2-4; RH Matt Andriese (L, 1-3) 5.0 IP 8 H 6 R 6 ER 4 Ks.

Prospect Watch: The T-Pads are going through a rough stretch having dropped six of ten and now only lead the Southern Division by a half game…Matt Andriese had a tough outing. After allowing only two earned runs in his first two starts to begin his stint in AAA he has now given up 11 earned runs in his past 8.2 innings…Jaff Decker's line in July - .361/.403/.475…and Dean Anna continues to hit with a .933 OPS for the year.

Missions 6 - Midland Rockhounds 3

Key Statistics 1B Tommy Medica 2-4, 2 3 RBI, HR(10); C Robert Kral 1-3, RBI, HR(2); CF Rico Noel 2-3, 2B, SB(39); RHP Matt Wisler 5.0 IP 4 H 3 R 3 ER 4 BB 4 Ks; RHP Matt Branham (W, 3-1) 1.2 IP 2 BB 2 Ks; RHP Matt Stites (S, 14) 1.0 IP H.

Prospect Watch: The Missions split their series with Midland but are now 13 games over .500 as they depart for Corpus Christi...The three home runs in this game were a season high as Tommy Medica had two of them and was responsible for three RBI. Despite missing two months of the season with an oblique injury, Medica has 22 extra-base hits in 39 games..It's very early but it's nice to see Robert Kral getting the regular at-bats at catcher in AA. In six games two home runs…Matt Wisler has been good, but not dominating at this level. For a player that is still only twenty years old what he is doing is very, very good but the talk of calling him up to the big leagues is premature.

Inland Empire 66ers 9 - Storm 5

Key Statistics CF Travis Jankowski 3-5; 2B B.J. Guinn 2-5, 2B, RBI; 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones 3-4, RBI, BB; RF Kyle Gaedele 2-4, HR(8); RHP Matt Jackson (L, 6-4) 2.2 IP 7 H 5 R 5 ER HR.

Prospect Watch: After a good outing in his last start Matt Jackson got hit hard in one of the "Thunderdomes" of the Cal League, Inland Empire. The Storm are now 14 games under .500…Austin Hedges, who was the DH tonight, had a single. His overall line this year is now .275/.346/.422 but has been hitting much better since he returned from his injury…Jankowski is having a nice year but only twenty-one extra-base hits in the Cal League in 430 plate appearances needs to improve.

Cedar Rapids Kernels 2 - TinCaps 1

Key Statistics: DH Chris Burke 2-4; RHP Joe Ross (L, 4-5) 6.0 IP 7 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB 3 Ks HR.

Prospect Watch A nice outing by Joe Ross on Sunday afternoon, but it was for naught as the offense could only manage a single run. The rubber game is today as the TinCaps are 10 games above .500. After a rough patch, Ross has bounced back and pitched well in his past two starts only giving up two earned runs in 12 innings…The TinCaps offense can put the ball in play but there is just not a lot of punch in the lineup as the team slugging percentage for July is .347.

Emeralds 8 - Vancouver Canadians

Key Statistics: RF Hunter Renfroe 2-5; CF Wynton Bernard 2-4, RBI, BB; C Ryan Miller 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB; RHP Jimmy Brasoban (W, 2-2) 5.0 IP H 2 R ER 3 BB 4 Ks.

Prospect Watch .

An eight run sixth inning gave the Ems their second straight win as they return to Eugene for an eight game home stand. While much of the attention, and deservedly so, has been on first round pick Hunter Renfroe, catcher Ryan Miller has put up some good numbers this year with a .33 on-base percentage…In ten games Renfroe has 13 hits but also 12 strikeouts in 45 plate appearances.

For further reading on the Emeralds, see the Eugene Register-Guard.

AZL Rangers - AZL Padres

Key Statistics#B Dustin Peterson 3-4, 2 RBI; DH Jose Urena 2-4, RBI;SS Franchy Cordero 1-3, BB; CF Rod Boykin 1-2, BB, 2B; RHP Cam Stewart (L, 1-3) 3.1 IP 6 H 5 R 5 ER 4 BB K.

Prospect Watch: At least they have moved to playing these games at night compared to when they used to play at 10:00 AM. The new signing rules have really helped many of the high school players get their feet wet in pro ball. A nice day by Peterson but remember to not pay to close attention to the statistics because these games are slightly more than spring training games…Still some promise from late round pick OF Boykin, could be a sleeper.
