Alabama Gymnasts Host Auburn Friday
It will be Senior Night in Coleman Coliseum as Alabama honors Sarah DeMeo, Ria Domier, Lindsey Fowler, Kim Jacob, and Diandra Milliner. This year's seniors were freshmen and sophomores on the Crimson Tide's 2011 and 2012 NCAA Championship teams and also led Alabama to the 2011 SEC Championship as well as a trio of NCAA Regional titles.
"There haven't been many classes that have made as big an impact on our program as this one," UA Coach Sarah Patterson said. "This class has been very instrumental in keeping us at a championship level, not only because of their competitiveness and what great athletes they are, but also because of the leadership they have shown from the very beginning."
The seniors are undefeated at home going into Friday's meet, tallying a 30-0-0 record in Coleman Coliseum, which is part of a larger 44-0 streak going back to the middle of the 2009 season.
"Sometimes you'll have a class come in and you're not necessarily dependent on them to compete but this year's seniors, without them we wouldn't have been successful," Patterson said. "Not only did they compete as freshmen, but they dominated our lineup."
This will be the second time this season that Alabama and Auburn have faced off, following a 197.500-197.100 win for the Tide at Auburn on Feb. 14. This Tide is coming off of a win against Stanford where Alabama posted a school record breaking score of 198.250 last Friday. On the way to the record, the Tide posted season-best scores on all four events.
Milliner was named SEC Specialist of the Week after scoring a perfect 10 on the vault against Stanford. Junior Kaitlyn Clark led the Tide last Friday scoring a career-best 9.95 on the uneven bars and the balance beam while also scoring a 9.925 on the vault.
Friday marks the Tide's 10th meet of the season and eighth meet against SEC competition. Tickets for Friday's regular-season finale are available now through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at RollTide.com.
