MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 6

Not a great day for the minor leagues, but some of the early stars of the year keep on producing.

Reno Aces 9 - Chihuahuas 1 -

Key Statistics: LF Reymond Fuentes 2-4, 2B, SB(1); 3B Alex Castellanos 2-4, 2B, 3B; RF Kyle Blanks 1-2, HR(1), BB; RHP Burch Smith (L, 0-1) 3.0 IP 4 H 4 ER 3 BB K.

Prospect Watch: AAA is the toughest of all the minor leagues not necessarily because of the competition, but because you are so close. Frequently most of the players on the roster can see themselves on a major league roster and returning back to the minors is just tough to deal with. Kyle Blanks, who has spent the majority of his time in the big leagues since 2010 finds himself caught up in a numbers game and back in AAA. He's off to a nice start and making the best of a tough situation hitting .429/.667/.400 in his first three games...Fuentes is also off to a good start hitting .429...A rough outing for Burch Smith, who also struggled some with his breaking pitches and location in the spring.

Tulsa Drillers 5 - Missions 1

Key Statistics SS Jace Peterson 1-4, 2B; CF Kyle Gaedele 1-4; RHP Justin Hancock (L,0-1) 4.0 IP 7 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB K;

Prospect Watch: The Missions were held to only a pair of hits, one of them was by Peterson who has now hit safely in all four of San Antonio's games...Hancock had a bit of a rough outing but should be better as the season goes on than he showed today...Gaedele is a sleeper and could get more reps than Yeison Ascencio because of a higher upside and more versatility.

Lancaster Jethawks 7 - Storm 4

Key Statistics CF Alberth Martiniez 2-5; DH Corey Adamson 3-4, 3B; SS Stephen Carmon 2-4; RHP Matthew Shepherd (L, 0-1) 2.0 IP 4 H 6 R 6 ER 2 BB 2 Ks; RHP Adam Cimber 2.0 2 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BBs.

Prospect Watch: In his first four games of the season Martinez has multiple hits in three of them...Corey Adamson signed with the Padres in 2009 when he had barely turned 17. Imagine going to a different country and competing against professional baseball players several years older in your junior year of high school. Not an easy task. The Padres‘ patience with Adamson appears to be paying off after a good year last season he is off to a quick start with a .357 batting average..As noted yesterday Lancaster may be the worse park to pitch in for professional baseball. A nice performance by Cimber who had a good record last year at Eugene with a 3-1 record and 2.56 ERA.

Great Lakes Loons 10 - TinCaps 5

Key Statistics:CF Mallex Smith 2-4, 3B, BB, 2 SB (4); RF Franmil Reyes 2-5; C Dane Phillips 2-4, 3B; 1B Luis Tejada 2-4; 2B Reynaldo Bruguera 2-3; RHP Jimmy Brasoban (L, 0-1) 7 H 8 R 8 ER 2 Bb 4 Ks; RHP Tayron Guerrero 2.0 IP BB 2 Ks..

Prospect Watch A nice performance by Mallex Smith, who led the Midwest League in stolen bases last year with 64 but not much else to report as the TinCaps dropped their second straight game...On a positive not first baseman Luis Tejada, 21, who struggled last year in the Midwest League, is off to a good start with a .308 batting average.
