MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 7

With many top Padre pitching prospects starting the year on the DL, it has become a next man up mentality system wide. Thus far, the next men up have excelled.

Chihuahuas 9 – Tacoma Rainiers 5

Key Statistics: 1B Kyle Blanks 1-4, HR (2), RBI; C Adam Moore 2-3, HR (1), 2 RS, 2 RBI; RHP Brandon Kloess 6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, K (W, 1-0); RHP Leonel Campos 1 IP, H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K.

Prospect Watch: Kyle Blanks has now hit home runs in back to back games. While the four game sample size is incredibly small, Blanks' 1.497 OPS is a great start. While Blanks' power is nothing new, his eye at the plate is showing considerable improvement. He will never be a contact hitter, but after a career of being a 2.5 K per walk, Blanks is currently sitting at 4:3. Again small sample size, but a great start for one of the better Padres' prospects. .

Missions 5 – Tulsa Drillers 4 (11 innings)

Key Statistics SS Jace Peterson 2-5; LF Rymer Liriano 2-5, 2B, RS, 2 RBI; 1B Lee Orr 1-4, HR (1); RHP James Needy 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K; RHP Johnny Barbato 2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 K (BS, 1)(W, 1-0) .

Prospect Watch: After starting the season 1-11 with eight strikeouts, Rymer Liriano had his first multi-hit game. Possibly more importantly Liriano did not strikeout, and made hard contact every time… James Needy lasted only four innings in his first AA start. As was the case most of last year, Needy shows he has multiple above average pitches, but locating them is still an issue. The two walks might not seem bad, but the 40-32 strike to ball ratio is a lot more telling.

Storm 3 – High Desert Mavericks 6

Key Statistics SS Diego Goris 3-4, 2B, RS, RBI; LF Corey Adamson 2-3, HBP; RF Hunter Renfroe 1-5 2B, RS; RHP Bryan Rodriguez 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, 2 K..

Prospect Watch: Storm fall late as LHP Chris Nunn have up a two-out, three-run homerun in the eighth inning. It was only the fourth home run Nunn has allowed in 82 games since being drafted back in 2012… While many of the Storm hitter's expected to excel in the Cal League have struggled, namely Renfroe (.150); other players including Corey Adamson (.412), B.J. Guinn (.417), and Diego Goris (.462) have all kept the Storm afloat
