MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 13

Diego Goris picked a nice time for his first home run of the year and Joe Ross has another strong outing for Lake Elsinore. A pair of tough losses for El Paso and San Antonio. Fort Wayne was rained. out.

Reno Aces 6 - Chihuahuas 4

Key Statistics: 2B Brooks Conrad 2-4; 1B Cody Decker 3-4, 3B, HR(2), 3 RBI, RS; LF Alex Castellanos 1-3, BB; RHP Brandon Kloess 5.0 IP 6 H 4 R 4 ER 3 BB K; LHP Tony Sipp (L, 1-1) 2.0 IP 3 H R ER 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch: The game was tied going into the seventh before back-to-back doubles put the Aces ahead for good...A big day for Cody Decker with three hits and for the budding auteur a viral video...RF Travis Buck left the game in the third inning with a leg injury. Buck, the former Oakland A's outfielder, was off to a great start hitting .471...the Chihuahuas have one more "home" game in Tucson before going on the road for two more weeks. Their new stadium in El Paso will open on April 28.

Edit: We erroneously noted last night that Cody Decker played third base for the first time in his professional career last night. As Cody communicated to us via Twitter, he played third twice last year although we could only find evidence of one time during the regular season (Tucson didn't qualify for the playoffs) (July 6 against Las Vegas) and a few times in the AZL (again, we could find evidence of a single appearance on June 25, 2009) and, of course, the whole time in Panamanian winter ball; for which we will take him at his word.

Tulsa Drillers 4 -Missions 3

Key Statistics:2B Cory Spangenberg 2-4, 2B; SS Jace Peterson 1-3, BB; C Austin Hedges 2-4, 2B, 2 RBIs; RHP James Needy (L, 0-1) 7 H 4 R 4 ER 2 BB 3 Ks; RHP Jerry Sullivan 1.0 IP H 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch: The Drillers went ahead in the fifth inning and never looked back. The Missions had runners on in the last three frames but couldn't get the tying run across..Somewhat overshadowed by Jace Peterson, Spangenberg has also been off to a good start too, unusual for him since it usually takes him awhile to warm up. In his first 10 games he has a .317/.333/.415 line with three extra-base hits and three stolen bases...Peterson has now hit in nine of the Missions' first 10 games...Hedges, after a bit of a slump to begin the year, has four hits in the past three games. Defensively he has thrown out six baserunners in 15 attempts, which really shouldn't really surprise anyone.

Storm 3 - Lancaster Jethawks 2 11 innings

Key StatisticsCF Alberth Martiniez 2-5; 3B Gabriel Quintana 2-5; 2B Diego Goris 1-5 HR(1), RBI; RF Hunter Renfroe 0-2, 3 BBs; DH Corey Adamson 2-4; RHP Joe Ross 5.0 IP 4 H 0 R 0 ER BB 6 Ks; LHP Chris Nunn (W, 1-1) K.

Prospect Watch: Diego Goris picked a nice moment for his first home run of the season with a walk-off to lead off the eleventh...Although he went hitless today, Renfroe nearly doubled his walk total for the year. If the plate discipline comes he should be really good...For the second straight outing Joe Ross didn't give up any runs. So far in his career Ross‘ talent has exceeded his performances. This year the two might match.

- TinCaps - Clinton Lumber Kings Rained out, no make-up game scheduled.
