MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 3

El Paso is starting to really hit while the Missions still struggle at the plate. Casey Kelly returns in Lake Elsinore and Jake Bauers is really rolling in Fort Wayne.

Chihuahuas 8 - Sacramento River Cats 5

Key Statistics: 2B Brooks Conrad 1-3, RBI, BB; RF Jeff Francoeur 3-4, HR (4); DH Cody Decker 2-4, HR (4), 2 RBI; C Adam Moore 2-4, HR (2); LHP Jason Lane (W, 3-2) 5.2 IP 7 H 4 R 3 ER 2 BB 2 K; RHP Kevin Quackenbush (S,5) 1.0 IP 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch: Home runs by Jeff Francoeur, Cody Decker and Adam Moore accounted for seven of El Paso's eight runs and were enough to give the Chihuahuas their second straight home victory...Easily Francoeur's best game of the year who has had a tough start since joining the Padres...The Anti-Hero had his second straight multi-hit game, four of his last five hits have been for extra-bases...C Adam Moore has been a great find by the organization as they were able to grab him from the Royals for only "cash considerations". Moore is now hitting .321/382/.420 with only a single error behind the dish. His only negative is that he has only caught four of 21 runners attempting to steal...Lane may have had his worst outing of the year and still got the win..Quackenbush in now five for five in save opportunities and has a 1.35 ERA.

Corpus Christi Hooks 4 - Missions 1

Key Statistics: CF Rymer Liriano 1-2, RBI, BB; C Austin Hedges 1-2, 2B, 2 BBs; LF Kyle Gaedele 1-2, 2 BBs; RHP James Needy (L, 0-3) 4.1 IP 5 H 3 R 3 ER BB K.

Prospect Watch: A three-run fifth inning by the Hooks was enough to send the visiting Mission home with a loss after a wild pitch by starter James Needy followed by a rare throwing error by catcher Austin Hedges to third allowed Corpus Christi to tie the game after a lead-off double. His replacement LHP Jeff Ibarra got the first batter and was an out away from getting out of the inning before a single plated two runs...Needy was the best pitcher last year in Lake Elsinore but with the exception of one outing still hasn't found his groove yet in San Antonio. When he's on he's going to go much deeper in games with fewer runs allowed...The Missions are improving offensively but still hitting .216/.288/.315 as a team. When that happens, the pitching better be really good.

Storm 5 - Inland Empire 66ers 4

Key Statistics CF Alberth Martiniez 0-3, 2 BBs; RF Hunter Renfroe 1-4, 3B, BB; 3B Gabriel Quintana 1-3, 2B; BB; SS Diego Goris 3-3, 2B, HR (3), 4 RBI; 1B Luis Tejada 3-4, RBI; RHP Casey Kelly 3.2 IP 6 H 2 R 2 ER 5 Ks; RHP Matthew Shepherd (W, 1-1) 1.1 IP H BB K; RHP Trevor Gott (S,8) 1.0 IP H 3 Ks.

Prospect Watch: The Storm only scored in two of the nine innings but it was enough to hang onto a one run lead with RHP Casey Kelly in his first pitching performance in more than a year...A huge day for Diego Goris who drove in four of the five runs that the Storm put on the board...Renfroe's 16 extra-base hits lead the organization...Kelly looked good tonight. If he doesn't experience any problems he is expected to eventually join the El Paso club as he builds back up his arm. Before getting hurt he was one of the best pitchers in the organization.

TinCaps 8 - South Bend Silver Hawks 4

Key Statistics CF Mallex Smith 2-3, 3B, 2 BBs; 2B Fernando Perez 2-4; 3B Dustin Peterson 3B 2-4, 2B; 1B Jake Bauers 3-3 HR (1) 3 RBI, BB; DH Dane Phillips 0-2, 2 BBs; RHP Adrian De Horta 4.1 IP 4 H R ER 3 BBs K; RHP Justin Livengood (W, 1-1) 2.2 IP BB 3 Ks.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps bounced back from yesterday's disappointing loss and put eight runs on the board before South Bend was able to score...It is hard to think of a better debut week than 1B Jake Bauers has had as he blasted a two-run shot over the right field wall for his first home run in the Midwest League. It was Bauer's third straight three-hit game...Second straight start that De Horta has allowed only one earned run but it would be nice to see him go a little deeper in the game...Some real speed at the top of the order with LF Ronnie Richardson who is hitting .286/.500/.333 in 14 games and CF Mallex Smith with 17 stolen bases...If they can tighten up the defense this could be a very interesting team in a month or two.
