Key Statistics:2B Jace Peterson 4-6, 2 RBI; 3B Brooks Conrad 4-5, HR (11), 3 RBI, BB; LF Jake Goebbert 2-5; CF Alex Castellanos 2-4, BB; SS Tyler Greene 3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI; C Rocky Gale 2-5, 2 RBI; RHP Billy Buckner 3.2 IP 8 H 6 R 3 ER 2 BB 3 Ks; RHP Hector Ambriz (W, 2-0) 1.2 IP H K.
Prospect Watch:Whether the Padres put their AAA team in Tucson or El Paso anytime a game is played in the PCL South there is a good chance its going to end up in double digits and Saturday night was no exception. Down 10-8 in the bottom of the eighth the home town Chihuahuas put three on the board and Hector Ambriz, who got them out of a big jam in the top of the eighth inning was able to get the last three outs to close out the Rainers...Peterson and Conrad who hit at the top of the order were on base a combined nine times...Peterson who has been playing both second and shortstop has a .354/.455/.585 slash line. Have to wonder when he is going to get his next opportunity in the big leagues...Ambriz, who was briefly with the big club earlier this year, has a 2.02 ERA in 23 games and a 21/3 strikeout-to-base-on-balls ratio which for the PCL is amazing.

Missions 12 - Arkansas Travelers 4
Key Statistics: CF Reymond Fuentes 2-3, HR (4), 3 RBI; RF Yeison Ascencio 2-5; LF Rymer Liriano 2-4, 2B, BB; DH Jason Hagerty 3-4, RBI, BB; 3B Jake Lemmerman 2-5, HR (3), 4 RBI; C Robert Kral 1-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, BB; 1B Bridger Hunt 2-5, 3B; SS Brian Bixler 1-3, BB; RHP Matt Branham (W, 4-1) 5.1 IP 8 H 4 R 4 ER 4 Ks; RHP Adys Portillo 2.0 IP H BB K.Prospect Watch:The Missions scored a season high 12 runs and hit three home runs as they bounced backs from last night's defeat..Yeison Ascencio is really hitting. He has now had multiple hits in seven of his last nine games...Reymund Fuentes has six extra-base hits in 19 games in AA, four of them for home runs since being sent down from El Paso..After a dismal April that saw him post an OPS of .545, Robert Kral finished with a ..748 OPS for May...Adys Portillo has an overall ERA of 0.98 with 34 strikeouts in 27.2 innings but 16 walks is still a little high.
Storm 9 - Visalia Rawhide 4
Key StatisticsSS Benji Gonzalez 3-4, 2B, BB; DH Diego Goris 2-5; CF Hunter Renfroe 3-5, 2 HRs (15), 6 RBIs; 1B Duanel Jones 4-5, HR (2); C Jeremy Rodriguez 2-4; RHP Bryan Rodriguez 5.0 IP 6 H 7 R 7 ER 2 BB; RHP Roman Madrid 2.0 IP 2 Ks;
Prospect Watch:The Storm won tonight the way they have all season; punish the opposing pitcher and then use their lights-out bullpen to shut down the other team...Hunter Renfroe hit a pair of home runs. The first one to dead center and the second to left-center. He now leads the organization with 15 home runs and 47 RBI. In April he had 40 strikeouts in 26 games but showed some significant improvement in May reducing it to 27 in 29 games...Roman Madrid had his first outing of the year and threw up a pair of blank frames..So the big question is when will Renfroe get moved up to AA? It might not be a bad idea to let him continue working with hitting coach Jody Davis as he is making real progress on his plate discipline. It is a very big jump from AA and pitchers at that level might be more adept than their High-A counterparts of getting Hunter to chase breaking balls in the dirt.

TinCaps 8 - West Michigan Whitecaps 6
Key Statistics3B Dustin Peterson 1-5, HR (5), RBI; RF Franmil Reyes 2-5; 1B Jake Bauers 2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 BBs; LF Luis Tejada 2-4; PR Mallex Smith SB (41); RHP Kyle Lloyd 5.0 IP 7 H 5 R 3 ER 2 BB 6 Ks; RHP Justin Livengood 3.0 IP 4 H R ER 4 Ks; RHP Nick Mutz 1.2 IP 3 Bb; RHP Tayron Guerrero (W, 4-0) 0.1 IP/
Prospect Watch:With the game tied at six in the bottom of the tenth, 1B Jake Bauers led off the inning with a single. Manager Michael Collins promptly brought in pinch-runner Mallex Smith, who is leading the Midwest League in stolen bases, and with everyone in Parkview Field aware that he was taking second, Smith stole second base. DH Ryan Miller then moved the runner over to third with a sacrifice bunt but all the careful strategy went out the window when catcher Adolfo Reina, who played for West Michigan last year, hit a game winning home run to give the TinCaps the victory...Bauers finished the month with a .379/.464/.568 line. That is not bad for a guy that didn't make the squad out of spring training...Great job by the TinCaps bullpen which only gave up one earned run in five innings of work...Tayron Guerrero is putting up some numbers too. He has a 1.24 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 29 innings of work against 11 walks.
