MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: June 13

Oramas has his best start in San Antonio but the ball was flying in El Paso, this time against the Chihuahuas. Both Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore lose late and the Ems open the season with a loss on the road.

Round Rock Express 11 - Chihuahuas 4

Key Statistics:2B Brooks Conrad 2-5, 2B, HR (13), RBI; RF Jeff Francoeur 2-4, RBI; DH Travis Buck 2-4; 3B Jonathan Galvez 2-4, RBI; SS Tyler Greene 2-4; RHP Odrisamer Despaigne (L, 1-2) 4.2 IP 11 H 6 R 6 ER 6 Ks HR; RHP Keyvius Sampson 1.0 IP 3 H 3 R 3 ER BB 3 Ks; LHP Bobby LaFromboise 1.0 IP BB.

Prospect Watch:Round Rock broke the game open in the fourth inning with four runs on a JP Arenciba home run and then added three in the seventh and two in the eight to send the home town Chihuahuas to their fifth loss in six games...So far it's been a rough transition for Sampson to the bullpen with three appearances and a 15.00 ERA in three innings...Francoeur has been hot since May but an overall .313 OBP might be causing the Padres and other major league teams to take a wait-and-see approach on if he's ready to come back to the big leagues...In four AA starts Despaigne has an 8.20 ERA and has given up 17 earned runs in 18.2 innings. It might be awhile before we see him in San Diego...Former Padres' farmhand Justin Germano got the win working six innings and giving up four runs for Round Rock.

Missions 9 - Midland Rockhounds 1

Key Statistics: CF Reymond Fuentes 1-4, BB; RF Yeison Asencio 2-4, 2 HRs (6), 5 RBI; 2B Casey McElroy 2-4; DH Jason Hagerty 2-2, BB; PH Lee Orr 1-1, HR(7), RBI; C Austin Hedges 1-3, 3B, BB; 3B Adam Buschini 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB; LHP Juan Oramas 7.0 IP 6 H R ER BB 8 Ks; LHP Frank Garces 1.0 IP 2 Ks; RHP Joe Church 1.0 IP 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch:Juan Oramas had his best start of the year, and he has pitched very well in his two other outings for the Missions since being sent down from AAA, as he shut down the RockHounds on Friday night. Oramas, who was a big reason for the Missions' success last year, is making a strong push to get back to El Paso, and the way their starting pitching has been looking he should have a case...After enduring a horrible April, Yeison Ascensio continues to get better with a pair of home runs tonight. On May 1 he was at .188/.233/.212 and now he is at .269/.293/.399. He is improving, but the plate discipline still needs some work...In June Casey McElroy is hitting .366/.435/.488 and he has pushed his overall batting average to .274.

Side noteFormer Padres LHP Andrew Werner threw three innings for Midland tonight and gave up a pair of earned runs. Werner, along with SS Andy Parrino, who is in AAA, were the two players traded for RHP Tyson Ross, which looks like a pretty good deal now for the Padres.

High Desert Mavericks 10 - Storm 9

Key StatisticsRF Hunter Renfroe 2-3, 2B, 2 BBs; LF Jeremy Baltz 1-4, HR (2), 3 RBI; 3B Duanel Jones 3-5, 3 RBI; 1B Luis Domoromo 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI; RHP Zach Eflin 7.0 IP 4 H 2 ER BB 6 Ks HR; RHP Trevor Gott (BS, 4) (L, 2-4) 0.2 IP 3 H 4 R 3 ER HR.

Prospect Watch:Along with a solid offense, the Storm bullpen has been the strength of the team this year. So when Lake Elsinore went into the bottom of the ninth with Trevor Gott, who is second in the organization with 16 saves, the odds are pretty good. Unfortunately, a single followed by a throwing error put two batters on. The Mavericks got one run on a sacrifice fly followed by the coup de grace of a two-run home run a batter later...Despite his fourth blown save of the season Gott still has impressive numbers with a 31/9 K/BB ratio and a 3.16 ERA. He has been much better at home with a 1.69 ERA compared to a 4.70 ERA on the road in some of the Cal League's Thunderdomes...Get to Lake Elsinore quickly if you want to see Hunter Renfroe because he is about ready for the Texas League. In 301 plate appearances he has 39 extra-base hits and his strikeout-to-walk ratio has improved every month. In June he is at 8/13 as compared to in April he struck out 40 times against 11 walks.

Bowling Green Hot Rods 4 - TinCaps 3 11 innings

Key Statistics2B Fernando Perez 2-5; DH Franmil Reyes 2-5, 2B; 1B Jake Bauers 0-2, 2 BBs; RHP Kyle Lloyd 6.0 IP 7 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB 7Ks. HR; RHP Tayron Guerrero 1.0 IP K; RHP Nick Mutz (L, 1-4) 1.0 IP 2 H R ER 2Ks.

Prospect Watch:With two outs in the tenth inning and a runner on second, the Hot Rods go the big hit they needed off of TinCaps's closer Nick Mutz for the deciding run of the game as Fort Wayne went down in order in the bottom of the tenth..Jake Bauers' 18 game hitting streak came to an end, but the Huntington Beach native still got on twice with a pair of walks to push his OBP this season to .446...Kris Lloyd pitched another strong game and has been the most consistent TinCaps' starter this season with a 3.56 ERA and a 58/15 strikeout-to-base-on-ball ratio. It's a nice find for someone who went in the twenty-ninth round of the 2013 draft or for those of you keeping score at home, that is one round after the Padres' made their "fun" pick of Johnny Manziel in this year's draft.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Spokane Indians 7 - Emeralds 3

Key Statistics:SS Franchy Cordero 1-4, 3B; 2B Jalen Goree 2-4, 2B; LF Jose Urena 1-3, BB; 1B Marcus Davis 1-4, HR (1); RHP Jimmy Brasoban (L, 0-1) 3.0 IP 4 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB 3 Ks.

Prospect WatchThe Emeralds opened their season on Friday night in Spokane with a loss as Jimmy Brasoban, who was with Fort Wayne earlier in the year, took the loss...The good news is Franchy Cordero played shortstop and did not make an error after having 18 in 20 games with the TinCaps. It is still not clear what other positions he will play when top pick Trea Turner arrives after signing with the big club earlier this week...Jalen Goree was a sixth round pick of the Padres in 2012 and is still only 21, might be someone to watch this season as injuries have cut into his career the previous two years.
