MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: June 19

Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore start the second half by being blown out. Missions and Chihuahuas also fall. Ems win on a walkoff

Chihuahuas 2 – Iowa Cubs 6

Key Statistics RHP Jason Lane 6 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K; C Adam Moore 1-4, HR (6), RBI; SS Tyler Greene 2-3, 2B, RS, BB

Prospect Watch: USD's Kris Bryant made his AAA debut against El Paso. The extra base hit leader did what he has done all year; hit a home run. He hit a home run against Brandon Kloess to seal the game for Iowa… Josh Vitters was another top 100 prospect that was rumored to come to the Padres a few years ago. He has had five hits over the last two games against El Paso, but has only a .667 OPS this year, and has gone from elite prospect, to barely holding onto a roster spot. And yes, El Paso is so devoid of prospects performing even decently that the opponent was talked about.

Missions 1 – Midland Rockhounds 4

Key Statistics RHP Bryce Morrow 5 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 5 K; RHP Trevor Gott 1.1 IP, BB, 2 K; RHP Adys Portillo IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K; 1B Jason Hagerty 2-4, RF Hunter Renfroe 1-4, HR (1), RBI, 0 K

Prospect Watch: Speaking of minor league leader in extra base hits, second on the list is Renfroe, who kept pace with Bryant by hitting a homerun of his own. Unfortunately his was not enough as the Missions lost. On another positive, Renfroe has not struck out in his first two games. His best streak is three games without a streak… stay positive.

Storm 7 – Lancaster Jethawks 13

Key Statistics RHP Bryan Rodriguez 2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 3 BB; 3B Gabriel Quintana 4-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI; 1B Duanel Jones 1-4, 2 RBI

Prospect Watch: The Padres were really high on Dominican signee Gabriel Quintana. He hit over .300 last year in Fort Wayne, and the Padres were optimistic what he could do in the more hitter friendly Cal League. This game aside his OPS has dropped 90 points while his strikeout numbers have increased dramatically. Quintana comes from the same mold as Alonso, good bad, double power, but if he cant hit he's not at all a prospect. On the plus side he has seven hits over his last two games including four doubles.

TinCaps 4 – West Michigan Whiteaps 15

Key Statistics RHP Erik Cabrera 3.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER; CF Ronnie Richardson 2-4, 3B, 2 RS; 2B Fernando Perez 2-4, RBI; C Ryan Miller 1-4, HR (6), 2 RBI

Prospect Watch: Not the best way to start the second half of the season. TinCaps commit four errors including two by Dustin Peterson (24 on the year) as the TinCaps fall big. The MWL best hitter Jake Bauers had another two hits. While Bauers may have not been an all star based on not having enough at bats, if he continues at even close to his first half pace he will be a postseason all star.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Ems 8 – Boise Hawks 7

Key Statistics RHP Jimmy Brasoban 3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; DH Trea Turner 3-5, 2B, 2 RS, SB (4); 2B Jalen Goree 3-4, 2B, HR (1), 2 RS, 4 RBI, 2 SB; CF Nick Schultz 1-5, HR (1), 3 RBI

Prospect Watch: The prospect everyone was drooling at coming into this season was Franchy Cordero. Cordero went straight to Fort Wayne were he struggled hitting .188/.237/.235 with a ton of errors before being sent down to Eugene. Thus far in Eugene hitting has improved, hitting safely in four of six games, but the defense…. Has not. Cordero commited three errors tonight, including one in the ninth inning that led to a blown save. Cordero is still 19 so there is not a huge rush, but it will be nice to hopefully see the errors come down… With two on and one out in the 11th, Turner hit a bullet up the middle for a single. With the bases loaded Goree blooped a single to left allowing a walk off win .
