MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: June 28

El Paso plays a very long double-header. San Antonio is rained out and Joe Ross gets the win in one of the homerdomes of the Cal League. Fort Wayne takes the loss and Eugene wins in a "walk-off-walk". The AZL Padres have some outfielders.

Game 2 Tacoma Rainers 15 - Chihuahuas 12 15 innings

Key Statistics:LF/CF Alex Castellanos 3-5, 2 BB; SS Tyler Greene 3-7, 2B, 2 RBI; DH Travis Buck 2-3, HR (3), RBI, BB; 2B Chris Nelson 3-6, HR (2), 4 RBI; 1B Cody Decker 0-3, 4 BB; 3B Jake Lemmerman 2-7, 2B, 3B; C Rocky Gale 4-6, RBI; RHP Matt Wisler 5.2 IP 8 H 7 R 7 ER 7 Ks 2 HR; RHP Keyvius Sampson 0.2 IP 2 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB K; RHP Branch Kloess (L, 2-3) 3.0 IP 3 H 3 R ER BB 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch: The Chihuahuas played a lot of baseball on Saturday to make up the game where Tacoma lost their luggage...A good day by longtime MadFriars' favorite Cody Decker who was 2-6, with a double, home run, RBI and five walks...Jeff Francoeur is having another good month at .318/.330/.551, just don't look at the OBP...After three solid starts Matt Wisler had his first tough one, but it is really hard to evaluate in the PCL where many of the games can resemble the Wiffle Ball games all of us played as kids in our back yards. In June batters are still hitting only .241 against him and he has struck out 27 in 35 innings.

Storm 7 - Lancaster Jethawks 4

Key StatisticsLF Luis Domoromo 2-5; C Dane Phillips 2-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI; 3B Gabriel Quintana 2-5, RBI; RF Corey Adamson 3-4, 2 3B, RBI; RHP Joe Ross (W, 8-4) 5.1 IP 11 H 4 R 4 ER 4 Ks, HR; RHP Tayron Guerrero (S,2) 1.0 IP K.

Prospect Watch:The Storm snapped a three game losing streak as Joe Ross got his eighth win despite giving up four earned runs in five innings but then again he was pitching in Lancaster, which is probably the worst park in the Cal League...Luis Domoromo continues to have a red-hot June .347/.383/.507...Dane Phillips continued his power surge with two extra-base hits on Saturday. Phillips now has 12 extra-base hits in 19 games and an OPS of .935...With six triples Corey Adamson is now one off of the league leaders.

South Bend Silver Hawks 9 - TinCaps 5 12 innings

Key Statistics:CF Ronnie Richardson 3-3, BB; 1B Jake Bauers 2-4, RBI, BB; LF Nick Schultz 2-4, SS Josh VanMeter 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB; LHP Payton Baskette (L, 3-4) 4.0 IP 9 H 7 R 7 ER 2 BB 2 Ks.

Prospect WatchPayton Baskette continued his up and down season and unfortunately today was a down day...Jake Bauers broke out of his 0-8 "slump" with a 2-4 day...As with Jake Bauers a short while ago, Richardson would be leading the league in on-base percentage if he had enough plate appearances. Still, for a lead-off man .455 is very impressive.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Emeralds 2 - Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 1

Key Statistics:2B Cory Spangenberg 1-4; DH Jalen Goree 1-3; 1B Trae Santos 1-3, HR (2), RBI; C Miguel Castillo 1-3; RHP Adrian De Horta 5.0 IP 3 H R ER 2 BB 4 Ks, HR; RHP Max Beatty (W, 1-0) 1.0 IP.

Prospect WatchThe Emeralds got the win on a "walk-off walk" in the bottom of the ninth...Franchy Cordero was 0-3 with a walk, but did not make an error...Very strong pitching performance by Adrian De Horta, who has struggled with his command in April and May in Fort Wayne.

For further reading on the Emeralds, see the Eugene Register-Guard.

AZL Brewers 10 - AZL Padres 6

Key Statistics:2B Daniel Bravo 3-4, SB; LF Jordan Paroubeck 3-5, 2 2B, 3B, RBI; CF Michael Gettys 1-3, 2 RBI, BB; RF Mason Smith 2-4; DH Christian Munoz 2-3, 2B, RBI, BB; RHP Justin Hancock 1.0 IP H; RHP Malcom Diaz (L,0-1) 1.0 IP 4 H 6 R 2 Ks.

Prospect WatchJordan Paroubeck continues his romp through the AZL with a .424 batting average in his first eight games. If he keeps it going into mid-July he's going to push Randy Smith to make some decisions...Michael Gettys has a .417 OBP and even though he is striking out more than once a game his walks and hits are offsetting it...Justin Hancock pitched in his first game since mid-April.
