MadFriars' Daily Farm Report July 2

Cory Spangenberg is back in AA, El Paso plays two, the Ems hit a walk-soff home run, and Fort Wayne and AZL continue to struggle.

Game 1: Chihuahuas 4 – Alburquerque Isotopes 5

Key Statistics: RHP Michael Nix 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 7 Ks; SS Jace Peterson 0-3, RS, BB; 2B Tyler Greene 2-4, 3B, RS; RF Jeff Francouer 2-4, RS, RBI.

Game 2: Chihuahuas 9 – Alburquerque Isotopes 5

Key Statistics: RHP Donn Roach 6.2 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, BB, 8 Ks; RF Jeff Francouer 3-3, 2B, 2 RS, RBI; 3B Chris Nelson 3-3, 2B, RS, 2 RBI; 1B Cody Decker 1-3, HR (9), 3 RBI.

Prospect Watch Cody Decker has now homered in four of his last ten games. Since Goebbert was promoted and Decker started playing everyday he has had an impressive slash line of .300/.462/.733... One of my favorite stats when behind in the count Johnathan Galvez is hitting .340/.333/.491! Thats right how many hitters out there are hitting .340 when they are down in the count?

Missions 4 – Tulsa Drillers 3

Key Statistics: RHP Josh Geer 6 IP, 6 H, ER, 4 BB, 4 Ks; CF Reymond Fuentes 2-2, 2B, RS, RBI, BB, SB (12); 2B Cory Spangenberg 1-2, BB; 1B Jason Hagerty 1-2, HR (9), 2 BB.

Prospect Watch For the first time since April 15th, Cory Spangenberg is back in AA... In the "second half" of the season Jason Hagerty is hitting .385/.444/.692, Over the last month he has more walks than strikeouts. Really the only thing that is hurting Hagerty's prospect stock is the fact that with Hedges behind the plate, Hagerty is getting a vast majority of his playing time as a 1B/DH.

Storm 6 – Inland Empire 66ers 2

Key Statistics: RHP Colin Rea 5 IP, 5 H, 5 Ks; Roman Madrid 2 IP, H, 2 Ks; CF Mallex Smith 1-3, BB, 2 RS, 3 SB (4 (52 total)); SS Diego Goris 2-4, RS; C Dane Phillips 2-4, HR (7), 3B, 3 RBI.

Prospect Watch CF Mallex Smith was promoted mid- June and almost immediately hit the DL. He is back and so is the stolen base lead... In just over a year, Hebner went from a legit prospect with a mid 90's fastball, to now a member of the TinCaps. He was sent down as Geninson Reyes was promoted to Elsinore... Since Gott was promoted to San Antonio Brandon Alger has taken over as the closer. Not only has he responded well but he has allowed one run in his last 12 appearances. The former 26th round pick, has been lights out since he has moved to the pen late last year. .

Dayton Dragons 7 - TinCaps 2

Key Statistics: 3B Dustin Peterson 1-4, 2B, RS; DH Franmil Reyes 2-4, 3B; RHP Ronald Herrera 5 IP 3 H ER 4 Ks .

Prospect Watch Dustin Peterson is now second in the league with 28 errors. Since Fernando Perez went on the DL 8 days ago the Tin Caps are 2-6.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Emeralds 2 - Spokane Indians 1 (12 innings)

Key Statistics: SS Trea Turner 1-4, BB, SB (8); DH Franchy Cordero 2-5, HR (2); 2B Jalen Goree 1-5, HR (2), WALK-OFF; LHP Thomas Dorminy 2 IP, 2 H, BB, 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch In just over three weeks the Ems have used 21 pitchers. Quite a few of them have been fantastic. Former top pick Bryan Verbitsky despite blowing the save on Monday has allowed just three hits and four walks in 10.2 innings while striking out 17. RHP Seth Lucio 8 IP, 2 H, 9 K; Thomas Dorminy 9 IP, 5 H, ER, 12 K, there are others including Max Beaty, Aaron Creesly, and Colby Blueberg have all been fantastic thus far.

For further reading on the Emeralds, see the Eugene Register-Guard.

AZL Padres 4 – AZL Cubs 6

Key Statistics: RHP Manuel Gonzalez 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 Ks; LF Jordan Paroubeck 1-4; CF Mason Smith 3-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RS; DH Michael Gettys 0-4, 2 K.

Prospect Watch Through the first week the Padres and Randy Smith were singing the praises of Ruddy Giron. Since then he is 2 for his last 28. Just remember on international signing day that he is 17.
