MadFriars' Daily Farm Report August 7

Chula Vista native Fernando Perez led the TinCaps in a torrid eight run comeback to beat the Captains. El Paso also puts up 13 and Max Freid kind of appears in a box score.

El Paso Chihuahuas 13– Salt Lake Bees 2

Key Statistics: RHP Juan Oramas 7 IP, 10 H, 2 ER, 3 Ks; RF Rymer Liriano 3-5, 2B, 3B, 3 RS, 2 RBI, BB, 2 SB (20); LF Jake Goebbert 1-2, 2B, 4 BB, 4 RS; 1B Cody Decker 3-5, HR (18), 3 RBI; DH Jonathan Galvez 4-6, 2B, RS, 2 RBI.

Prospect Watch Jake Goebbert now has more walks with El Paso (31) than strikeouts (30)… Rymer Liriano had his eighth multi-hit game in his last 11… In the eighth inning Jace Peterson grounded out, and then was replaced in the bottom of the inning by Jason Lane (who went to first with Decker going to third). No word on if it is injury related.

San Antonio Missions 4 – Arkansas Travelers 3

Key Statistics: RHP Joe Ross IP, 4 H, 3 ER, K; RHP Josh Geer 6 IP, 2 H, 6 Ks; 2B Cory Spangenberg 2-4, RS, RBI, SB (13); CF Travis Jankowski 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, RS, SB (14).

Prospect Watch Joe Ross was lifted after just one inning, although he did strike out the final batter he faced… C Austin Hedges may have gone just 1-4, with three strikeouts but he also was perfect on the night in throwing out baserunners… Jankowski’s last extra-base hit in AA came on April 14th.

Storm 1 – High Desert Mavericks 2

Key Statistics: RHP Elliot Morris 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 Ks; CF Mallex Smith 2-4, 2B, RBI; C Dane Phillips 2-4.

Prospect Watch It is hard to win games when the offense is 2-12 with RISP. Since joining the Storm Elliot Morris has gone 2-2 with just a 2.16 ERA. 25 IP, 14 H, 5 BB, 15 Ks. Considering how hitter friendly the Cal League is, those numbers are normally those a Cal League All-Star Game starter… Dane Phillips might still be a work in progress behind the plate but wow, he can hit. A catcher who is hitting .308/.374/.533, has to be considered a prospect.

TinCaps 12– Lake County Captains 11 (10 innings)

Key Statistics: RHP Ryan Butler 2 IP, 3 H, BB, 2 Ks (0.68 ERA); DH Trea Turner 2-6, 3B, RS, RBI; 2B Fernando Perez 1-4, HR (10, (Grand Slam)), 6 RBI; LF Henry Charles 2-4, 2B, HR (4), 4 RS, 2 RBI, BB; SS Josh VanMeter 2-3, 2B, 2 RS, RBI, BB.

Prospect Watch At the seventh inning stretch the score was 11-3 in favor of the Captains. The TinCaps scored four in the seventh, and tied the game in the eighth on a two out grand slam by Perez. The TinCaps won on a Trea Turner walk off single in the 10th.

For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Ems 2 – Hillsboro Hops 5

Key Statistics: RHP Walker Weickel 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, ER, 3 BB, 3 Ks; 2B River Stevens 1-4, 2B, RS, SB.

Prospect Watch Oh Walker Weickel so much talent, so little results. The big question is when will it start to click?... Franchy Cordero played another game at shortstop without an error!

AZL Padres 5 – AZL Cubs 3 (makeup of suspended game a month ago)

Key Statistics: LHP Max Freid IP, 3 H, ER, K; IF Daniel Bravo 2-4, 2B, 2 RS RHP Starling Ynfante 2.1 IP, H, 0 ER, 3 Ks.

AZL Padres 1 – AZL Cubs 4

Key Statistics: RHP Mayky Perez 5 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, BB, K; SS B.J. Guinn 2-3, 2B; 3B Carlos Belen 2-3, HR (5), RBI.

Prospect Watch Don’t get your hopes up by seeing Freid in the boxscore. It was from a game over a month ago that was suspended in the third inning. The game also featured another of other Cub and Padre players who are no longer with their team. .
