Memphis Redbirds 2 - Chihuahuas 1
Prospect Watch:A great pitching performance by Jason Lane couldn’t get him the win despite Jason doing nearly everything in his power to get the win. Down 1-0, he led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Rico Noel. Although Noel was forced out on fielder’s choice by the rehabbing Maybin, El Paso loaded the bases with one out. RF Jeff Francoeur got an RBI sacrifice fly to score Maybin, but LF Yeison Ascencio, the Chihuahuas hottest hitter, struck out with two on and two out. In the top of the ninth Jerry Sullivan gave up a leadoff double who the Redbirds were able to move around to score the deciding run. In the bottom of the ninth the Redbirds struck out the side...Lane is now hitting .386/.455/.632 and leads El Paso in innings pitched with 135.2 and has a 3.90 ERA since the all-star break...I’m still not sure why there is not a roster spot for him in San Diego.

San Antonio 2 - Northwest Arkansas Naturals 1
Prospect Watch:In his last start James Needy was handed his first loss since May 3 and he bounced back tonight with one of his best pitching performances of the year. At home Needy has been particularly tough with a 1.83 ERA in 64 innings and maybe it’s time more people start to talk about bringing the former Santana star back to San Diego...Another local San Diego product, Poway High’s Alex Dickerson was 3-3 after having a tough August at .176/.208/.294...Finally, keep an eye on left relief pitcher Frank Garces who has 73 strikeouts in 61 innings against only 23 walks this season.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 5 - Storm 1
Prospect Watch:Colin Rea has had better outings and the Storm offense just wasn’t there tonight...Jose Rondon continues to look like the best part of the trade that sent Huston Street to the Angels. He is hitting .330/.422/.409 with Lake Elsinore and has only made three errors in 25 games.

Lake County Captains 10 - TinCaps 5
Key Statistics:SS Trea Turner 2-5; CF Ronnie Richardson 1-2, HR (3), 2 RBI, BB; DH Fernando Perez 2-5, 2 RBI; C Ryan Miller 1-3, BB; LF Nick Schultz 1-3, 2B, BB; LHP Jeffery Enloe (L, 4-5) 2.2 IP 8 H 6 R 5 ER 2 BB 3 HR; RHP Eric Yardley 1.0 IP 2 Ks.
Prospect Watch When your starting pitcher gives up six runs on three homers in the first three innings, it’s probably not going to be a very good day and it wasn’t for the TinCaps...Even though Fort Wayne made a pair of errors today, they still have only made 18 in 15 games which gives them a chance to finish off one month with less errors than games played. An unimaginable feat after watching the team play in April and May. Much credit goes to shortstop Trea Turner for really stabilizing the infield defensively. At the plate he is hitting .403/.473/.581... Along with this year’s selection of the AZL’s Michael Getty, Padres’ draft guru Chad MacDonald, who recently resigned, deserves a lion’s share of the credit for overseeing the 2012-2014 drafts which have brought in a lot of talent to the organization.

Hillsboro Hops 6 - Emeralds 3

AZL Indians 15 - AZL Padres 4
Prospect Watch:If the AZL Padres hadn’t scored three runs in the bottom on the ninth it would have been even worse...CF Michael Gettys was 0-4 with two strikeouts, which is about the only bad news with him. He has hit over .300 since he has turned pro and his slugging percentage is .549 in August. Hard to see how he will not be in Fort Wayne to start 2015.
