Oklahoma City Redbirds 10 - Chihuahuas 2
Prospect Watch: Robbie Erlin had a tough return to AAA as he absorbed a beating in his first start for the Chihuahuas on the road...Taylor Lindsey, despite having a .624 OPS in 34 games with El Paso, and a .695 OPS overall in the PCL, has caused the organization to play Jace Peterson at only third and shortstop. Obviously, someone must see more than we do because Peterson has shown himself to be a much better hitter with an .817 OPS overall.

San Antonio 11 - Frisco RoughRiders 6
Key Statistics:CF Cory Spangenberg 2-4, 3B, RBI; RF Hunter Renfroe 1-3, BB; DH Robert Kral 0-1, RBI, 2 BB; RHP Justin Hancock (W, 2-2) 6.2 IP 8 H 2 R 2 ER 3 Ks 2 HR; RHP R.J. Alvarez (S, 6) 1.0 IP H 2 Ks.
Prospect Watch:Justin Hancock only allowed two hits all night and luckily for him they were both solo home runs. It was the second time in three starts he has gone six innings and only given up two hits....Hunter Renfroe has been struggling in August at .215/.267/.278 and C Austin Hedges has really had a tough time at the plate in the second half at .201/.239/.246. He may be playing through an injury but the chances are good San Diego will still send him to AAA El Paso next year where the offensive numbers will go up...Cory Spangenberg played his thirteenth game in the outfield and is hitting .332/.369/.482. It will be interesting to see what the Padres do next year in AAA with quite a few people that are going to want to play second base or be in center field with Spangenberg, Lindsey, Peterson and Travis Jankowski...Tonight was the Missions’ fourth straight win.
Storm 8 - Bakersfield Blaze 5
Key StatisticsCF Mallex Smith 2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, SB (39); LF Jeremy Baltz 2-5, HR (9), 2 RBI; 1B Luis Domoromo 2-4, HR (1)), 2 RBI; DH Duanel Jones 2-3, 2B, HR (10), 2 RBI; RHP Elliot Morris (W, 6-6) 6.) IP 7 H 4 R 4 ER BB 5 Ks; RHP Adam Cimber 2.0 IP BB 3 Ks.
Prospect Watch:The Storm broke a three game losing streak with three home runs and yet another solid pitching performance by Elliot Morris, who came over in the Huston Street trade. Morris now has a 3.00 ERA in seven starts with Lake Elsinore and has struck out 31 batters in 42 innings against only 10 walks...When the Storm win its usually because Mallex Smith had a good game. Tonight he was on base three times, got an extra-base hit, RBI and stole his thirty-ninth base in 51 games...Jones hit his fifth home run of the month and third in five days...Cimber returned to his comfort zone of middle relief after starting his first game on Wednesday and gave the Storm two clean innings.

Lake County Captains 6 - TinCaps 5
Key Statistics:SS Trea Turner 1-2, 2 BB, 3 SB; C John Nester 2-3, BB; LF Henry Charles 2-4, HR (8), 2 RBI; RHP Jimmy Brasoban 4.0 IP 5 H 4 R 3 ER BB 6 Ks; RHP Ryan Butler (L, 1-1) 1.1 IP 3 H R BB 2 Ks.
Prospect WatchCloser Ryan Butler, who has been very good for Fort Wayne this season, lost his first game on a throwing error by 3B Dustin Peterson that allowed the home town Captains to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth...It was error number #36 for Peterson in what has definitely been and up and down season for him. He is still in the Top 5 in the Midwest League in RBI but is going to have to tighten up defensively next year to stay at third, particularly in the Cal League where the infields are much faster...We are starting to run out of superlatives when it comes to Trea Turner, who stole three bases today to give him 10 in Fort Wayne and 19 overall between the Emeralds/TinCaps.
For further reading on the TinCaps, see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.
Emeralds 2 - Everett AcquaSox 0
Prospect WatchOn the day we ran an interview on Michael Kelly he delivers his best start of the year. Maybe being in MadFriars is the reverse of the SI cover jinx. In Kelly’s last four starts he has thrown 22 innings and given up five earned runs, all of which came in one start. If he can put it together next year in Fort Wayne too he will be someone to watch. Kelly has as much raw talent as any pitcher in the organization...Nice to see Seth Lucio get an opportunity to close, but then again anyone with 43 strikeouts in 25.1 innings against only 18 walks is fun to see in that position...Auston Bousfield continues to stay hot in August with a .388/.474/.672 slash line.
For further reading on the Emeralds, see the Eugene Register-Guard.
Game 1 AZL Padres 4 AZL Reds 1 7 innings
Game 2 AZL Reds 3 - AZL Padres 1 7 innings
Prospect WatchI’m not sure if anyone ever said “Let’s play two” during August in Arizona, but the AZL Padres played two seven inning games today. God bless ‘em...Rodney Daal had his best day yet and it will be interesting to see where the Padres start him next year. The natural spot would be to send him to Fort Wayne to begin the year where he will be only 21...A great rehab start by Troy Patton. First inning three batters, three strikeouts. Good night.
